I always go with a BLT sandwich.

Before or after the deer took a nice chomp? Seriously, they love tomatoes, starting with fresh green shoots in spring, then moving on to the fruit as they're plump for the picking.

What I did with the first unscathed tomato was slice and arrange on a plate, drizzle with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, sprinkle with parmesan curls and garnish with fresh basil.

Nothing like a home grown tomato - we make a caprice salad - very simple with a leaf of fresh basil, a thin slice of bocchini, olive oil, salt and pepper - superb
