What is the best American Food?

    What is your favourite?
Not including anything from Canada or South America.
Not including Mexican or any other foreign influence that is.
So you can't say Pizza or Mac and Cheese (Italian), Chilli (Mexican), Southern Fried Chicken(African/Scottish) etc..

Pemmican -- kind of died out in many areas of the country, but 100% American wink. (I'm assuming since you're excluding South and Central America that you mean United States rather than the Americas, so I'm going by that)

    North America:
if Canada then Pancakes with melted butter and Maple Syrup. If the U.S.A then it's got to be juicy steak straight from the grill served with buttered corn on the cob and a baked potato with sour cream. If Mexico then tacos in soft tortillas top my list.

Central America: Rice pudding or Tacos in soft tortillas

South America : A good Argentinian Steak

I think because America is such a melting pot, and everything is just a reinvention of something else, I think anything can be made into a great American dish. My faves include:

The chicago dog, or Chicago style deep dish pizza, The philly cheese steak, New Orleans style French Quarter Beignets (Which I have a great recipe for link below), A great grilled steak with a loaded baked potato, or chilly cheese fries yum!

My favorite is a 1 pound,  1and1/2 inch thick,  tender juicy T-Bone or Porterhouse Steak cooked (Rare) with a large baked potato with sour-cream and chives, and a side of sauted mushroom caps in garlic butter.

Well, if you're gonna cut out all immigrant food, I suppose the only thing is left is Native American cuisine, so I'll go ahead and say venison steak, medium rare.
