Butter in recipes (unsalted vs. salted)?

    Butter in recipes (unsalted vs. salted)?

    Is it assumed if a recipe asks for "butter" you would use salted butter as opposed to "unsalted" butter in which the recipe will specify it to be such?

    My rule of thumb on this would be, if recipe calls for salt, use unsalted butter...likewise, if recipe has no salt to add, then use salted butter.  Do know that unsalted butter is fresher!  Butter made with salt is generally older butter, so therefore salt is added as a preservative, allowing for longer shelf life.

      I agree on that! Adding salt to a recipe and using salted butter along makes it too salty sometimes and you dont even realize where you went wrong.
