Well it has been 19 days now since I quit smoking and I just want to say thank you to all the hubbers who were there in my corner all the way through.

I would imagine I still have a bit of work to do because 30 years of smoking just doesnt go away.

Anyways this is just meant to be a nice short post saying thank you so

    Thank You

    Cheers

    Dale

    Congratulations Dale! smile

I've quit a number of times, to simply prove to myself it is as I see it to be- mind over matter.

I quit for 4 years, early in life. Then did it again for 6 months.
Then even taken a few breaks during the course of time, such as quitting for 3-4 weeks at a time.

It boils down to a matter of your mind and will power, to gain control of your life. Some would say it's an addiction and I'm fine that they believe people are addicted to it.

However, what is failed to grasp is, it is a choice. You choose not to smoke. As long as you stick to that, then you will make it.

Again, Way to go. Nicely done.

    'Grats!

You're out of the woods.  Now it's just the one-off rocky patches to watch for.  I remember we went camping about nine months or so after I quit.  I'd never been camping without it, and it was such a chore at first, like I got waylayed unexpectedly by urges I thought I was over.

So, prep yourself for those kinds of surprises, and you are golden.

Oh I know those times are still out there but I know in my heart I will never be a smoker again.

I will admit even after 19 days I still have cravings but they sure as heck arent strong enough to change my mind.

I know I sure am feeling better already.

Yes, CONGRATULATIONS!  I can use any pointers you may have.  The gum and patches never worked for me and this man does not live by will power alone.   I tried using tai chi and meditaion but to my dismay, nothing works for me.

I will use you as my mirror and perhaps by seeing you not smoking, I'll think it's me and so, I wont.....

      What do you think?  lol

I told myself 3 months prior to quitting that I was quitting on a certain day.  So for 3 month everyday I promised myself I would quit on that day.

When the day came I had 10 smokes left.  I finished those by noon and now 19 days later I havent had a smoke.

I did use gum, nicotine inhaler and an e-cigarette for 6 days but after that I used nothing.

Yes I get cravings but I just continue to tell myself its just not going to happen

Two main factors, One is I am already feeling way better and number 2 is the fact that I am saving 500 bucks a month

Trust me if I can quit then anyone can

Dale, did you have a lot of stress in your life when you quit? Lately I've been considering quitting but I've been having a tremendous amount of stress lately (laid off, loss of home, crappy temporary job, etc) and I think if I quit now I would probably have a mental breakdown lol. On the bright side, I'm only down to about 5-10 per day, so it's not too bad I guess.

If I can be honest stress is only an excuse not to quit.  Dont get me wrong, Im not saying there isnt stress, I am saying the addiction is controlling you.

In the last 20 days there were 2 very stressful times that I really did want to light up.  However I just told myself it wasnt going to happen.

I announced to the world and especially to Hubpages which in turn made me accountable.  I almost feel that if I started smoking now I would look like a loser in front of everyone that has supported me

You can quit, habee. You have to believe in yourself and get strongly motivated.

Congrats to you. Dale. It's been almost six months and sometimes I could just light up without thinking about it - not that it causes me great stress or anything. But that's the insidious thing about it, the mental wiring takes a very long time to come undone.

Ditto on that Habee, what Dale said. I quit on April 11th. It was really hard, but after the third day it gets better. The tenth day was bad too, but I was going through personal problems when I quit, so that had a lot to do with the stress too.

You can do it! With your sense of humor, you would definitely make it through.

I wrote a bit about the chemicals in the cigarettes, if you look them up on line you can figure out what to add to your diet, or even aroma therapy to help you through. Peppermint, chocolate and vanilla are just a few. I ate a lot of cinnamon, and that helped.
