Is it allowed for me to use a hub as a free preview of some of my novels?

    like a 600 to a 1000 word preview?

    or what?

I know that's a silly question, but I don't know how to find out if I can or not.

    Thanks

If you are thinking of getting it published eventually I would look into this aspect of - if you publish it on the internet will the publisher still want it ?

I am not sure if it would rule out the chances or not of you getting it published. It is just worth considering it when weighing up your optons.

Others have done it. I don't see why you couldn't.

I agree, there are no written or unwritten rules against it.

    lol Jeff, interesting stance.

@CkhoffmanK - It is. Some even post full novels here like Edweirdo does.

Wow, thanks everyone for the prompt feedback.

Was just thinking about giving some teasers along with what I already write.

I would echoe 2uesday's point.  Personally I never post more than 500 words fo a pre-published novel and usually nothing at all.  Some publishers really are not keen on unedited excerpts being out there, especially on "content" sites..

A limited sample as that which has been suggested should not rule out getting it published elsewhere.

I've done it.  I use it as a tool to determine interest.  Plus you can earn nice profits from the adsense given the work never get published other wise......

Check out my example at my True Confessions Hub and best of luck.  I look forward to reading your work.

    Peace smile

I disagree with pretty much everything being said here. Publishers generally do not want to read online, nor do they appreciate previously published content.

I'd love to hear advice from you as it appears you may have helpful insights regarding this topic.  Do tell, what is your advice to publishing success?

Thanks in advance for your contribution!

I appreciate your approach, namely that you are willing to share your work with others, seek feedback, and give advice to others concerning your experiences.

The background for what I am saying here is that I regularly work with literary consultants, whose primary job it is to make so-called “manuscript assessments” and to help authors avoid the many pitfalls that may prevent them from finding publication. I have been advised by these consultants that literary agents and publishers prefer traditional submissions – i.e. a synopsis, a cover letter, and a suitable sample (usually the first three chapters). If they want more, they will request it, in which event the submission becomes “solicited.”

Hopefully, this answers at least parts of your question.

Yes it does, I have dealt with Paramount for over nine years and the song lyrics angle of selling my work.  The book deal is different.   Thanks for the advice. smile

I'm not trying to send in the story to a publisher. Just wanted to make that clear. The Fear Chronicles series are self-published and copyrighted.

I am working on a novel titled, "Chloe", which is strictly for being sent to a publisher. It's a much different style though. smile

Just wanting to share my writing. Not make a profit (that's why the download is free, even)

Katie, thanks! I'm going to take a look. Part of my current novel is partially romance.. but mostly dramatic.

Free has nothing to do with it, in my opinion. Lots of advertisements and self-promotional products are free.

CkhoffmanK,  Your welcome, I feel this will answer your question.  Doing something is better than doing nothing.  As a writer I always feel better bringing projects to fruition, eases the clutter in the mind.

Writers Write...so write on girl.  I look forward to reading it.  I just became a fan.

I'm sorry, but.. maybe I am going on the defensive cuz I'm new to HB, but is there a problem, Website Examiner?? Seems as though there is.

Website Examinerposted 13 years agoin reply to this

The problem is that HubPages Terms of Service (TOS) has some rules about posting self-promotional links on the forum. Such links may be reported, then removed, and oftentimes the person posting them will face a temporary forum ban. It happens all the time.

Seems like you take a bit too much of an interest in it, IMHO. But, that's just me. So sorry.

It was pertinent to a question regarding the use of the hubs. I did promote my book. But to gain insight from other writers who use HB. New here, as I said before.

Katiem2 - Thanks for the kind words. Keep in mind, I write horror lol! You may not like it. But if you do, great smile Im following you and posted a fan note. Im still figuring this site out.

You will notice a lot of us here on HP are willing to go the extra distance and offer advice and assistance, especially when it comes to TOS violations that we think aren't intentional - we would rather see you learn to play the game than get banned for preventable misunderstandings.

Yes. I got the point, and I think the wrong impressions were taken on my end and I apologize.

However, does this mean that we can no longer discuss on this particular thread? Simple mistake made and I am aware. What now? (lol)

Just assume the discussion is what it is? or?..

Website examiner, thanks for the TOS info on this question.  I was wondering about this since someone had previously suggested to me that I write a hub about my online novel (it is the first one I wrote so I consider it a practice novel and am working on a new one now for submission to publishers).
Now I know not to do the hub adding a link to my own site would be against TOS.
