Who is Allah?

Since time immemorial, man  has been believing that there should exist  a supreme being, who or which brought about good or bad, things which man could not control himself, where thought of as being created or controlled by that being, a being with unimaginable power and capabilities. Man felt the need to acknowledge such a superiority, submit to its will and fear it. Even though these attributes were the essential features of one true God, unfortunately with the course of time he took to worship things and beings which he could touch or feel, or had attributes similar to himself and followed different ways of submitting his loyalty.
Almost ever religion on earth, however close their religious scriptures may describe God, they fail to incorporate  all the essential features of one true God. Nevertheless, the followers tend to advocate that God could actually poses certain human attributes, like having parents or children etc. God is not in  need of parents or children or for that matter anyone for His existence, if any being himself required assistance for his existence then he very well need not be worshipped. A   being who cannot help himself cannot definitely help you and me. Another major flaw in religious practice is the idea of existence of multitude of gods each having a definite duty and handling a definite task in the running of the universe.Allah says in the Noble Quran in Surah al Anbiyah  21:22
If there were therein gods beside Allah, then verily both (the heavens and the earth) had been disordered. Glorified be Allah, the Lord of the Throne, from all that they ascribe (unto Him).
If one god where to create and another to destroy, would they  not end up in some sort of a fight and would not the creation be in chaos, away from a balance?  Most people tend to believe that images and idols are gods themselves or are means to reach god, or help in concentration as they depict his image. This is because man is mistaken that god has attributes like himself, has hands and legs, eats, sleeps, marries women, has children, parents…etc. If God was some being similar to you and me then that being need not be worshipped, because then it would make no sense are someone to worship a being like himself. Most people have taken to creation of idols and worshipped them as gods for examples the most Hindus and Christians, even though their religious scriptures prohibit this. It is said in Yajurveda chapter 32, verse 3- ‘There is no image of him.’
Yajurved chapter 40 verse 8-9 -‘He is bodiless and pure’.’They enter darkness those who worship natural things’. ’They sink deeper into darkness those who worship sambhuti  i.e created things’.
Rigved book 8 hymn1 verse1-“Do not worship anybody but Him, the Divine one, Praise him alone”.
Allah says in the Quran Surah Younus 10:106
"'Nor call on any, other than Allah;- Such will neither profit thee nor hurt thee: if thou dost, behold! thou shalt certainly be of those who do wrong.'"
Muslims call the creator Allah, any beautiful name can be used. One may argue that the idols are taken for concentration. Then a counter argument may arise as to why these idols have specific shapes depicting human attributes? why are these idols given respect of divinity. One is not allowed to stand on them or climb on then etc. Some people then say that these idols are not gods but are divine ways to reach god, which is against their scripture. Moreover if these idols whish are man-made cannot hear, talk or move how then do they have any capacity to act as mediators. The same applies to   worship of God through saints who are dead and by no means have power to intercede on our behalf. God is humble and does not ask his creation to reach him through mediators. Nevertheless, the so called mediators are human beings themselves; there is no benefit in asking them or through them. Allah says in the Quran in Surah zumur verse 45
When Allah, the One and Only, is mentioned, the hearts of those who believe not in the Hereafter are filled with disgust and horror; but when (gods) other than He are mentioned, behold, they are filled with joy!

The true, complete and unconditional description of almighty is given in the quran in surah al Ikhlas14:1-4
Say: He is Allah, the One and Only; Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; He begetteth not, nor is He begotten; And there is none like unto Him.
The description is complete and can befit none but Allah. If a person is worshipping an entity that does not satisfy each and every condition stated in this touchstone of theology, then, that entity is a false god and his fate will be hell-fire forever.
One may now come to a question as to why the need and effort to find the one true God and a way of life (religion)? Is it not enough that every person choose and decide for himself what is wrong  and right rather than obey a divine code of law? The answer to the first question lies in the Quran in Surah Al Imran
If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (submission to Allah), never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter He will be in the ranks of those who have lost (All spiritual good).
Just as we need to honor and obey our superiors (parents, teachers etc) as they have  a right on us since they have fulfilled their duties toward us, we have a higher obligation in finding our Creator and worshipping Him alone in the way He wants us to do so. It is He who gave us life and created this universe and things in it for our welfare. It is His right upon us to worship Him alone and none else. We cannot satisfy Him (Allah) by worshipping any god in any way. That would be unfair. Let me give you an example, your mother took care of, fed you and bore a lot of pain and  brought you up into a mature adult. If   in her old age, when she really needs care, instead you  decide to look after another old woman and give that old woman care and concern you ought to give your mother. Will your mother accept such an act? Definitely  no. Similarly, we are obliged to our creator much more than to our parents, because we are to return to Him to give account of our deeds in this world. Allah says in the Quran in
    Surah Baqarah 2:28
How can ye reject the faith in Allah?- seeing that ye were without life, and He gave you life; then will He cause you to die, and will again bring you to life; and again to Him will ye return.
    Surah Al mulk 67:2
    He Who created Death and Life, that He may try which of you is best in deed: and He is the Exalted in Might, Oft-Forgiving;

    Surah Al Imran 3:185
Every soul shall have a taste of death: And only on the Day of Judgment shall you be paid your full recompense. Only he who is saved far from the Fire and admitted to the Garden will have attained the object (of Life): For the life of this world is but goods and chattels of deception.
One may then ask as to why we would need to have a divine code of law to rule our lives? We mortals are nothing but slaves to the Almighty. He being the creator of the heaven and the Earth and all that exists has a complete knowledge of His creation. It is He who created man and knows the best what is good for him, what is beneficial for mankind as a whole. He sent to mankind His messenger Muhammad(may peace and blessings be upon him)and the holy Quran-The ultimate guidance. This is evident from the Quran in Surah Al anbiyah 21:107
We sent thee not save as a mercy for the peoples.
    Surah Ibraheem 14:1
A Book which We have revealed unto thee, in order that thou mightest lead mankind out of the depths of darkness into light - by the leave of their Lord - to the Way of (Him) the Exalted in power, worthy of all praise!-
    Surah  Baqarah 2:185
Ramadhan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur'an, as a guide to mankind, also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment (Between right and wrong)…
Every Muslim is enjoined the duty of conveying the message to everyone to whom the knowledge has not reached. Every human being is brother  to one another in humanity. It is incumbent on every Muslim who is guided with the truth to share his knowledge and prove to his brother that Islam is the right way of life, for the hereafter for a person who rejects truth after knowing it is a permanent abode in hell-fire.
Allah says in the Quran in Surah An-Nahl 16:125
Invite (all) to the Way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for thy Lord knoweth best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance.
May Allah guide us all unto the truth.

Idols are used as a stepping stone to go into the beyond or formless God.

Almost ever religion on earth, however close their religious scriptures may describe God, they fail to incorporate  all the essential features of one true God.
You clearly haven read any spiritual book apart form the Holy Quran and my book as well describes god with more simplicity and clarity than the Holy Quran.

If one god where to create and another to destroy, would they  not end up in some sort of a fight and would not the creation be in chaos, away from a balance?
Its a philosophy broken down to describe God a the creator, sustainer an destroyer.

The same applies to   worship of God through saints who are dead and by no means have power to intercede on our behalf.
They are not called saints for no reason, they have fused with God.

The answer to the first question lies in the Quran in Surah Al Imran
If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (submission to Allah), never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter He will be in the ranks of those who have lost (All spiritual good).

This part looks like it has been written by someone other than the Prophet Muhammad  because he said" to your religion be true as me to mine"  as he understood all prophets and religions are equally good.

You need to go beyond the name.

      "What or Who is Allah!"

This definitely is confused article, by Arjuman 01, on "What or Who is Allah!".  At least, I am confused, what she is trying to convey ????

I do not blame her, the topic is a complex one !!!!!!!!!!

I am a strong Muslim and do believe in Allah, The God, The Supreme Being, but not as Person like us.

He is an Infinite Energy, Capable of doing and undoing anything and everything.

Short of any other word we address Him as "HE" or "YOU"or "THOU".

We have another 99 Adjectives to define His Qualities and call those qualities as His Names - "What we Call 99 Names of Allah"

The world did not come to being just by accident of Big Bang.

The Big Bang, if at all it  occurred, it occurred by design. Because the things and events that followed  Big Bang have very complex design and highly efficient in working.

The Earth and the Universe have been efficiently operating for millions of years, without major problems. Yes Recycling of Physical entities has been going on.

At the same time Mass is being annihilated into Blackhole, while  Mass in Blackhole is returning to expand to make bigger and bigger Universe !!!

This Recycling of Matter explains that matter can neither be created nor be destroyed,

Question is "Who is doing this?", "Why is He Doing this?".
My immediate response will be GOD  is Recycling His Creation so that it does not Stagnate in Space and become waste ?
or some thing like this !!!

This is a great food for thought, for His Most Perfect Thinking Creatures- us The Human Beings !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This concept can be more appropriately understood if we know all about Science and Philosophy.
We have to know Astro Physics, Concepts of Space and Universe, Relativity, nth Dimension integration of Unity (Number 1) between Minus Infinity and Plus Infinity, Black Hole and Expansion of Universe, Matter and Energy, Propagation of Energy, and more . . . . . . .

      Good Luck
      Syed

Yes, it is often asserted by believers the universe is designed, but they have yet to define or distinguish a design beyond their own empty assertions.

That is nonsense. The universe was expanding when there were no black holes at all.

Sorry, but matter is not "recycled"

More nonsense, or something like that.

Tossing out words to form a word salad does not mean one actually has a clue as to what they're tossing out. smile

You ask a question. The same question I have asked so many times i.e. define this god/allah thing literally for me. Then and only then, we can seriously consider who/what it is.
I have always gotten "garble" in the replies.
      You have written pure "garble."

I think that stating that the Bible and the Quran "say the same thing" is being a bit oversimplistic. Although Christians, Jews and Muslims all believe in the same God, that is not to say that their beliefs are all that similar. There are a lot of similarities, to be sure, but the fundamental differences between them make them completely incompatible with one another. You can't be a Christian if you believe in everything is written in the Quran. Similarly, you can't be a Muslim if you believe that Jesus was who he said he was.

As for Allah, Jehovah, Yaweh, Lord, God, etc. they are all pretty much translations of the same name, from different languages and cultures. I'm sure that others could come up with far more of these.

Christianity can perhaps be thought of as an "evolution" of Judaism. After all, Christ was a Jewish Rabbi who upheld the original laws of Judaism. He may have made some clarifications to what has been interpreted from the old testament, but he never outright contradicted anything in it or said that its laws shouldn't be followed.

Obviously, Muslims have some very serious issues with both Judaism and Christianity, although those issues may be more cultural than theological. When any members of these religions pray, they are all praying to the same God though, regardless of what name they use for him.

Allah is the meaning of the Lord ,the exalted one. Allah is 'God'. Jehovah is 'God' ,Yahweh is 'God'.  Based on the study of religions it appears it is all the same God the only thing different is the word of God is taught differently.

Jewish believe Christ came but did not fullfil the messianic prophecies therefore he cannot be the Son of God nor did he fulfill the personal qualifications of the Messiah ( God.

Christians believe he is the Son of God and he will rise again

Muslims believe Jesus was the son of Mary, he was a healer Holy Qur'an 3:48-49  and the chosen one. The only two who were not touched by Satan were Mary and Joseph. Holy Qur'an 19:16-21 so please explain why we look at Muslims differently when many are taught about God, Mary and Jesus just like we are?

The Hebrews were expectng their Messiah due to their prophets; including daniel.

They understood the meaning of the four kingdoms that were prophesied. They were not expcting him to come before the tenth king of thr fourth kingdom.

Their Messiah came too early acording to their interpretations of Prophesy.

    Who is Allah?...ok roll

Just like the word 'God', Allah is a standard arabic word for a creator deity. In pre-Islamic Arabia, Allah was used by Meccans as a reference to the creator-god, possibly the supreme deity. However, this Allah was a Pagan God. He had three daughters Al Uzza, Manat & Al Lat (Three Goddesses). Allah also had some sons & was associated with angels too.

Muhammad was fascinated by monotheistic believes around him & realized the union of the whole arab empire can be brought under one rule if all arab tribes start to worship a single God -Allah. Muhammad copied, modified & gathered elements from three major religious sources of that time - 1. Christianity 2. Judaism 3. Zoroastrianism in order to make it look like an Universal religion. Many elements of Islam were borrowed later from other religious sources too. After the rise of Islam, Allah was considered the one & only god. The Muslims tried hard to vanish the names of other pagan Gods but still some names survived.

    Hope it works. Thanks!

Allah is another name for another version of the monotheistic god, this time created by Mohammad, an illiterate nomadic tradesman who lived 570 - 632 CE.

The monotheistic god is supposedly omipresent, omniscient, omnipotent and omnibenevolent.

A pretty convenient invention on the face of it - it means that he/she/it has all the answers to everything, and, at the same time, that no human can ever understand all the answers while on this earth.

The idea starts to get shaky when philosophy is applied. There's the Epicurean Paradox - the problem of evil - for a start off. There's also all the odd bits in the religious texts which either contradict each other or whose instructions are now deemed to be out-of-date. The Old Testament, for example - Mohammad included this in his five pillars - has an instruction to put to death children who insult their parents.

Most people think that'd be somewhat extreme these days. The adherents, however, do hang on to other bits of the OT piecemeal: Islam is notoriously homophobic.

Given that all adherents of the most famous religious texts claim that the texts were either written by the creator or divinely inspired, it's hard to square when you see how imperfect these books are. After all, isn't god perfect?

So finally, allah is a human invention, and like all human inventions, inherently flawed.
