25 years ago French agents Blew Up Greenpeace's Flagship Rainbow Warrior; in Auckland NZ, as she readied to sail to French Polynesia to protest Nuclear Testing in the Pacific.
The First act of terrorism on NZ shores, surprised and shocked the world.

Where were you and what do you think this terrorism thing at the time?

Good on you for posting this. I was at University in Auckland, (NZ).

We were all shocked at the news that a ship had been bombed in the harbor right in the middle of our city.

Then news indicated that the French had purposely bombed the Rainbow Warrior. At first it seemed an implausible that such a nation would infiltrate our shores during peacetimes and deliberately sink a ship!

They underestimated us though PD!  Our countrymen and countrywomen along with the police got em!

To read more about this event check out PD's fantastic background article and poem.

    Thanks there fellow Kiwi...
I was there too standing on the wharf in amazement at this and the fact that they had killed a crewman.
I think we were all in shock that after supporting France in 2 World Wars, they would do this to us.

Well said AP - Certainly changed the way we saw the world. It also really backfired on them, as worldwide support for Greenpeace increased tenfold.

That's what makes us Special mate hmm

      We Care.... Passionately
      And then We Kickarse! big_smile

Pete Bethune arrived back home in Auckland today as well, after he got arrested by the Japanese for boarding the Japanese Whaler that rammed and sank the AdiGai (ex Earthrace).

Imagine what the Kiwis could do if the politicians had the nutz to support a real stance yikes

        Yes we do PD.

Yes, just imagine what the polis (oh dear that's my Australian experience for you!) could do.  We used to take a strong stance but trade and other stuff got in the way!

I'm rather out of touch up here in this part of the world but of course my heart is ALWAYS downunder!

You'd think Americans would care--one of their citizens was killed by the French agents who carried out the bombing.

With great respect and love. The Rainbow warrior was one that worked for peace and wished all creatures on this earth well.

    Amazing....

There is an entire generation of people who are completely ignorant of what happened in their parent's lives that ensured that life on this planet (and their own) had a chance! yikes

How sad that the passion of a few has been lost to the apathy of a generation. sad

    Wow...
Like who gives a rat's butt that Woodstock happened lol
says the child who was conceived on Day 3. hmm

    Amazing...
