I've been thinking and researching about this a lot lately. I've come up with a couple of basic ideas that are guiding my thinking. First is the origin of the word 'diet'. It comes from an ancient Greek word which roughly meant 'way of life', which really has different connotations than how we use the word now.

Combine that idea with research that shows that 90 percent of people who go on 'diets' gain their weight back, and essentially become yo-yo dieters, which puts them at greater health risk, than if they had just stayed their original overweight course.

These revelations have strengthened my resolve to adopt only those practices that will help me over my lifetime and that can become a part of my 'way of life' or 'diet. Because fads and crazes only put my health at risk.

At the risk of dragging on, I won't get into specifics, but I just wanted to share the development of my philosophy. What do you think?

Don’t forget about exercising! When trying to lose weight, some people can get so wrapped up in cutting calories and portion sizes that they forget about the importance of exercise.

I replaced my soda with this low carb (like 1 cab)-low calorie (like8-10) drink that I love. Its has the feel of soda, so I didn't really miss the soda. I lost about 8 pound just doing that.

Fletcherism is my favourite tip. Means you chew your food a lot. Which means you eat slower. Which means you eat less without feeling hungry. Very clever. And your digesting will probably improve because you are not bolting your food down.

I think taking lemon water early in the morning everyday and taking water after meal not in-between meal and take green vegetables and fruits in diet are the healthy ways to reduce weight early and by natural way

Losing weight healthily I'd say is a healthy change of lifestyle - eat a bit cleaner, become more active, etc. I have a hub on weightloss here: <snipped link - do not promote your hubs in the forums>

The healthiest way to lose weight is neither crash diets nor bursts of exercise. The body likes slow changes in terms of food and exercise.

Eat a healthy, balanced diet and exercise your butt off! And limit or avoid take-aways and cut out all sweets, cakes, pastries and sodas. And be patient! Losing weight will take some time. You just have to stick with it till you lose it.

There sure are a lot of different ways to lose weight however, you should always try to use the tips that you can easily blend into your present lifestyle. If you try something that's just not feasible for you, you will probably only fail in your weight loss attemp

I always tell people that diet is a verb, not a noun. It should be something you do all the time. Depending on your goals, the way you diet will change. I am currently looking to add some more muscle, so my approach will be different from yours if you are trying to lose weight.

It basically comes down to life style.

Here are the basics though, and I promise you will lose weight if you follow this.

If it doesn't run, fly, swim, or grow out of the ground, don't eat it!

I enjoyed reading this interesting discussion on weight loss. Though metabolism rates vary and one successful weight loss method may turn out to be a fiasco for somebody else but the basics always remain the. Drink a lot of water, especially before meal, cut down on high caloried junk food,do some moderate exercise and try some safe medications made of natural stuff which have minimum side-effects and avoid sedentary lifestyle and you will surely lead a happy healthy life.

Weight loss is common sense, but it is very difficult to implement for the long term. It is not only about weight loss, it is about a healthy lifestyle which includes better food choices, daily physical activity and a positive attitude. I came across a rule that says you don't have to eat perfectly 100% of the time, if you focus on making better choices 80% of the time then it is okay to let go (within reason) for the other 20%. This is realistic and certainly takes the pressure off thinking that if you don't stick to something 100% of the time you have failed. My hub Common Sense Weight Loss talks about just that, common sense weight loss. Thanks for such an interesting post.

Have a healthy lifestyle - a good balance between a healthy diet and plenty of exercise/daily physical activity and adopt an attitude of discipline and moderation with regards to food intake.

Stay away from fad diets and other unnecessary weight loss shakes or powders or tablets or whatever and go back to basics and common sense based on energy balance - want to lose weight then eat less in general and be more active.

Lower your energy intake by lowering your intake of carbohydrates and fats.

Walk more - distance wise and more briskly. Do more exercises to elevate your heart rate - walk, jog, cycle, make love and do some light weight-lifting exercises to increase your muscle tone thus increasing your general metabolism and helping you to burn more calories.

Eat more in the early part of the day and less in the latter part of the day, so you have more time to burn the food that you digest and less food to store as energy at the end of the day.

      Eat less but more frequently.

These are some general tips which I would suggest if you wanted to lose weight.

      Hi there

I've posted hubs about a very popular Dutch diet plan. I know it's not posted in English quite often and not widely exposed yet.

It is not a very difficult diet to follow, and with some aid of exercising, it works for many people including myself.

You can check my hubs for more details.

      Cheers!
