Is hubpages still a strong site?

   A friend told me it's not as strong as it used to be a year ago when it comes to ranking in the SERPs. Can anyone shed some light? I plan to write 150 hubs on low competition keywords (well backlinked) before the end of august so I just want to make sure i'm not wasting my time. so far i've written 22 hubs for this 150 hubs experiment that I'm doing. Thanks!!!

      I think it is stronger on the whole, but weaker in a few areas. I usually see a hubpage outrank a domain with the same keywords in it, thanks to the internal linking system.
      
      So, hubpages/hub/greenwidgetsforbreakfast will usually outrank greewidgetsforbreakfast.com almost instantly.

            It is harder to rank in subjects where there are a lot of spammers on the site.
            
            Religion and forex trading come to mind.

               Thanks for the reply mr. knowles. When you mentioned the site, were you referring to hubpages? If yes, do you suggest that I check first if there's already numerous hubs written for a certain topic before I actually write a hub about it? thanks!

                  Yes - I was referring to hubpages, but no - you could take a look at how many spam hubs there are on a subject. Personally - I would avoid those. In any case - you mentioned you were targeting low competition areas, so you will probably be fine and I can certainly recommend hubpages as ranking faster than your own sites might do.

                     Thanks mark for your feedback. So i guess I'll go ahead and try to finish 127 hubs more before august 30. I've dished 23 hubs already for my little experiment. If I can make 3 dollars a day after 150 hubs and minor backlinking work I'll consider my experiment successful

      Does your friend write on this site?  What is leading them to make that assertion?
      
      My anecdotal experience and Hub stats are showing that my Hubs are doing the same or better now in SERPS than this very same time last year.

         Yes, he makes about 20 dollars a day last year in his hubs alone. He published more than 250 hubs in 30 days last year so I'm trying to duplicate it. I'm not sure if it's still gonna work though as he said that it's kind of hard to  rank now in hubpages. We'll I guess i'm just gonna have to find out myself by dishing out those hubs.

            At that pace, I really can't help but be suspect in regards to the quality of those Hubs.  Someone could crank out a lot of Hubs, but with Google tightening up certain standards (and thusly HubPages), just going for quantity could be counter-productive.

               I'm  going after low competition but high paying keywords. If I have 150 of those hubs and If i do some minor backlinking,  I think I should be able to get around 50-100 visits (conservative) and somewhere around 1-3 clicks a day. But since they're high CPC keywords, I think i should be able to earn around 3 dollars a day. I don't know, if they don't, they're still there anyway. I mean If they make me 10 dollars a month, that's still passive income

   I have been on hubpages for a year so am unaware of what the site was like before that time, however I do write on other sites but find hubpages the best. Over the space of a year my earnings and views just keep growing. I think it is a strong site.

   I've got good ranking in normally competitive areas (health, money and relationships).
   
   Hubpages is weak in business stuff, and my own sites run rings round it in the software niche.
   
   All those sexy Indian aunty Hubs really do this place no favours!

   Yes it is a strong site atleast for me though I have seen so many spammers around but what I feel is if they wont get results they wont spam much. Also, as far as hubpages is concerned I am getting very good results for a limited number of hubs which are liked by so many people. Hubpages rocks...
