Quote from Harold Lewis, Emeritus Professor of Physics, University of California, Santa Barbara.

"It is of course, the global warming scam, with the (literally) trillions of dollars driving it, that has corrupted so many scientists, and has carried APS before it like a rogue wave. It is the greatest and most successful pseudoscientific fraud I have seen in my long life as a physicist."

Here is his letter in full . . .

Research evidence of global warming for yourself  within your own ecosystem. Measure temperature changes day and night , time of different volumes of water evaporation within a period of time, record plant blooming periods according to plant species,go to highest known elevation within your region and gather information on migrating animal and insect species trying to live at higher habitats.Who will you believe first a persuaded persons interpretation or nature itself. thanks for listening.

In the 1970s the big excitement was the 'Next Ice Age'.  All the pundits were saying how the Earth was 'due' for another Ice Age.  In the 90s we have this 'Global Warming'.    I've never bought into it.   But then I have a hard science education.

What I loved were the demonstrators last year, protesting during one of the coldest winters on record against Global Warming.

If the Earth becomes warmer, land which is currently unusable will be made available.  Grapes will again grow in Canada, and the tundra will become a forest.

But hey, far be it from me to tell a kid there isn't any Tooth Fairy

The earth is getting warmer and the unfavorable effects are likely to significantly outweigh the positive effects.

Its been fact that most of the stuff said is either a lie or misleading.

Watch the Inconvienent Truth, that was enough proof right there to realize it was fake... All those years ago.

The thing is, we don't know for sure if or what we are exactly causing, the best thing to do is work on technologies to eliminate waste. (which we are doing, but could be doing way better)

It is also imporant to realize, we could mess the world up as much as we want. It will still be here, what won't be is the human race.

Wrong! The science is pretty clear. The oil and coal and electric power companies have been financing campaigns to discredit climate research. More than 90 percent of scientists believe there is cause for concern about the effect of greenhouse gas emissions on the climate.

Interesting. Thanks. As I've said in these forums before the climate at any given time is the product of natural forces and events over which we have no control and man-made effects, principally greenhouse gas emissions from coal-fired power plants and from motor vehicles. Amount of these emissions and their contribution toward global warming has been scientifically measured.

The only thing wrong so far was that you said I was wrong.

Because nowhere did I claim I was right. And everything I said had a backbone to it.

What you said is I can guarentee wrong. Although I would have just let it fly, but since you were so rude about it, let me drop a little knowledge on you.

Never did I say we might not be affecting our climate in some way. What I said is there is nothing true about what the IPCC and Al Gore claimed in his movie.

We'll say you are right and there are 10% of scientists who don't believe. Unfortunately for you those 10% are most likely real scientists, as they are actually skeptical about anything new. It is important to test hypotheses and always work on the science.

The science was in and the debate was over in 2001 when Al Gore came out with the movie. Florida is almost supposed to be gone by now due to sea levels rising.

I would also like to add a tidbit of information about the 90% number that you threw out there. I'm not sure where you get the number 90%, its pretty bold. Expecially if you are using the data where the IPCC claims there are 5000 scientists who agree the science is in. It is not, that is why they are still trying to prove it. It is also important to note that of those 5000 "scientists" Al Gore was included in that number along with thousands of other people who are not real scientists. Some of those people on the list were the actual scientists and said they didn't support it. It is up in the air how many were actually scientists, but i think it was in the hundreds, not thousands.

Climate change will happen, but probably not any time soon and probably not because of us releasing CO2.

I'll tell ya what...an experiment if you will...go into your garage and close the door. THEN, get into and turn on your car. Sit. Now, I want you to have someone in another room to come and get you of course, but this is exactly what is going on with our planet. We heat this thing up, melt the permafrost that hold more junk than anything we can create, and very quickly we melt the caps, flood the waters, and thus change the currents. When that happens, we get freaking cold, and we die. Is that a simple enough trail of logic for you?

I agree with Mikey, Never really put much stock in the whole global warming thing, but still think it is a good idea to look for better ways to take care of the planet. Just for our own survival.

Like using renewable energy, getting rid of our dependence of fossil fuels. Not to mention the fact that it would delete the need for dealings with the middle east.

But Mikey is right, we most likely could not destroy the planet, only ourselves.

Even though I agree that greenhouse gasses are not helping, I have studied this, and catastrophic climate change has always happened. My friend says that when she was growing up in the 60's, they were predicting the next ice age, now it's global warming.  I can say that the overall temperature of many areas of the world has risen in the last 20 years, but then, some areas have had temperatures fall.

Like I've always said, when the earth is done with us, she will just slough us off like dead skin and be done with us. Nothing we can do. Just hope it doesn't happen in my lifetime. I have a fear of fire and drowning, so solar flares burning up the earth and the whole southeast getting flooded are my worst nightmares.

That being said, the USDA is working on a new Growing Zones map that will show that temperatures are rising, and that the warmer zones are slowly creeping upwards over the last 15 years.

What makes you think its "pseudo science?" I'm not a scientist, but from what I've read the vast majority of actual scientists who aren't on the payroll of the oil, coal and electric power companies believe there is ample cause for concern.

Hmm, speaking as someone who does believe that global warming is primarily anthropogenic in origin and that it's going to be an incredibly real and serious problem for humanity over the next few centuries (possibly even millennia), I have to say that global warming alarmism has exactly the opposite effect on me - it makes me LESS likely to trust the government.

It should be glaringly clear to anyone who delves even the slightest bit into the science and causes of global warming that world governments, especially the US, are beholden to giant corporations willing to throw all of humanity under the bus in pursuit of short term profits either continuing the same policies that have got us into this mess in the first place, or creating a cap-and-trade system that will allow the financial sector to make themselves even richer at the expense of ordinary people, while doing next to nothing to actually combat the problem. Most governments are not going to do anything meaningful about the issue until it's much too late.

The only real solution is mass individual action, but with so many idiots out there listening to corporate propaganda telling them that climate change is not happening or not our fault or nothing we have to worry about, the chances of that seem pretty nil too. So basically, we're doomed. tongue

I don't believe climate change is a fraud and anyway what is the problem with looking after our Earth, where would we be without it? Everyone should take better care of their piece of the Earth and Govts should be doing more about helping us to help the environment.

    1. sannyasinman profile image61

No one is saying that climate change is a fraud. Climate change is real, the earth's climate is changing, as it has done for millions of years and it will continue to do so. There have been warm periods, cold periods, ice-ages etc.

What is at stake here is that a few scientists who, as one reader put it "have their hands in the cookie jar" backed by the IPCC at the UN, a political not scientific body whose very mandate is "to prove man-made global warming", are trying to scare the world by any means available, into believing that climate change will be catastrophic and it our fault due to our CO2 emissions. These are alarmist scare tactics, based on misleading and "cherry-picked" data. See Climategate and now Kiwigate for details. The truth is tha scientists do not agree on whether the earth is warming or cooling, but even if it is warming, many say that this will be a good thing!

However the global warming alarmist solution is to introduce crippling taxation on carbon emissions, and carbon-offset trading, which will effectively help to destroy much of the economies of the world's developing countries, plus the introduction of myriads more controls on which light bulbs you can use, etc, plus a new "green police" who will have the right to enter your home, without a warrant, to inspect you for compliance. Non-compliance will entail hefty fines and maybe more. The list goes on and on . . .

All this has nothing to do with global warming, and everything to do with more power and control to governments and the UN, and of course more money through taxes. This is where the scam lies. I for one, intensely dislike being lied to and manipulated. How about you?

I still think it's all bull.

The earth has been around for hundreds of thousands of years, and humans have only had the capacity to think for themselves for a few thousand years, and only started documenting the earths climate for a few hundred years.

Scientists can barely accurately predict the weather, earthquakes, and other eartlhy occurances, so what makes anyone believe that any scientist knows what they are talking about on this subject? It is all based on a few scientists theories, and has only been going on for a couple decades.

You can bet there is a lot of bickering between the scientists on who is right, and who is wrong, because nobody is 100 percent certain that they are correct. The fact that certain governments want to use fear to come up with new kinds of energy might actually be a good thing.

How else will they convince people that our current energy sources are destroying the planet, if they don't offer us a
supposed safer alternative. I am all for wind and solar Power. It certainly couldn't hurt.

The one I laugh at the most, is that Nasa claims that the hole in the ozone layer can be seen from outerspace. Those are mostly astronaughts up there, how would they even know what they are looking at? Especially when they claim that the Ozone can not be seen by looking at it on earth? Strange how they started talking about all this when there was talk that the U.S. might no longer send men into space. Hense less billions going into the space program.

If you ask me, a lot of people have their hands in the Global Warming cookie jar. Scientists that are studying this certainly aren't turning away the cash they are getting to find ways to put a block on this warming idea. I think the only things that are getting warm is their tans, when they use the money to vacation in the carribean.

Sorry, I don't buy any of it.
