Is a 3 year old bottle of opened peppermint schnapps safe to drink?

   I just found a bottle of it in the back of my freezer and it must be at least 3 years old. It smells normal and a taste on my finger tasted normal. It does have ice built up within the bottle...perhaps the water separating from the alcohol?
   
   There is no expiration date but it is 50 proof...safe to drink?

   Last time I checked, alcohol doesn't have an expiration date of any kind. Safe to drink, I would think so.
   
   Edit: Might be more potent, due to ice build up, alcohol separation from water.

      Many types of alcoholic drinks do have expiry dates. It depends upon the type of the drink. Spirits generally do not due to their higher alcohol content but all beers and many wines are only safely drinkable for a fixed period of time.

   That's what I am thinking...but where it has so much sugar I wasn't sure. It's the only booze I have in the house right now! I rarely drink anything at home but could use a few shots this evening.

   Checking back in.....I was wrong, it's 100 proof (so prob def safe). But, it was SO STRONG. Couldn't even do a shot. Usually I can do double shots of anything, but not from of this "aged" bottle! lol The little sip I had was enough to clear out my sinuses. I threw it out, but maybe I could've saved it to use as paint thinner.

   What a waste...I used to love the stuff. But yeah, I seriously think it would've worked as nail polish remover or something...if you've ever had any super cheap vodka, well...this burned worse. hahaha

    Yes, it's safe.
    
    That stuff typically sits on the shelves of bars for years at a time, rarely poured. So, your bottle of unopened schnapps will be just fine...

    Sounds like a challenge to me.  In the name of scientific experimentation, I suggest that you try it and report the effects of ingesting old shnapps.  I'm guessing they will be almost identical to the effects of ingesting new shnapps.

    That stuff used to be my drink of choice.  There is no such thing as "gone bad"  and I am living proof that it wont kill you.  or maybe it is a case of what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

    Should be safe..as far as I am aware alcohol does not have an expiry date like most consumables do.

    There is only one way to find out! If it is sealed I am sure it is fine. Believe it or not some bars keep opened bottles around longer than that
