Why does a hub do well with google for a while and then gets dropped

   I notice that sometimes some of my hubs do quite well with google  -it takes a couple of days and then I start getting some reasonable traffic - invariably though they seem to drop out of it again - sometimes google traffic comes back sometimes not.
   
   I suppose part of the reason might be the competition but I know that my vacation packing list at one stage was #2 or #3 on a google search for vacation packing list tips, now its not in the first 12 pages returned. 
   
   I include a news/rss capsule to ensure updating as well as ebay which updates regularly, though I also thought google favoured pages that had been around for a while so that totally doesnt make sense
   
   Any one got any ideas on how to stay on the frist couple of pages having got there in the first place?

   I have the same issue, several of mime had 2 red arrows, today blue, i usually go in and add something or  make it more interesting. add videos from youtube or something. then the red come back
   making more links to more favorable websites, web sights that may interest the people that came to my hub, one more thing. think about your tags, ad mispelled tags and things that would draw people in to at least look.. hope this helps

   I notice that as well.  I just wrote one on Sexy Womens Corsets and today I am #1 and #2 on Google and #2 on Yahoo for that search term.  But I have been #1 on several others, got a boat load of traffic for a couple of days and then it died.....for the other articles, I used keywords that were hot for the day, so that may be the reason..they were hot only for that day.....for the corset article, I used a search term that was not as popular, like corsets would be, therefore lessoning my competition. So we shall see if this method prolongs it being on google rather than the other.  I don't know how you pick your keywords or your titles, but maybe what I have explained has something to do with it, don't really know.

   Guys, quite a few professionals compete for the first places on Google. Why do you think you can outplay them being amateurs? Take your time and learn SEO, become professionals yourself.
   
   This is a business. You don't expect to make money racing cars - do you? Most of you drive a car, however. Same thing here. If you want to make money - learn and do what it takes to make money. Otherwise just enjoy your ride
   
   To answer your particular question - Google gives heavy advantage to new pages on established sites, considering them to be news. After a few days you have to compete as everybody else, however...

      Thanks Misha - that makes sense - and I thnk SEO is a helluva a lot easier than racing cars, but the cost of entry is very low so the competition is high, high, high!

   So this explains in part why I also noticed that new pages are on Google in the beginning but slow down after a few days. I would assume then that adding new text or link here and there to a hub will help with the page ranking.....
   
   My sister has a website for 4 years, I believe, that's always on the first page even if she doesn't have her site with Google adwords lately, as it became too expensive for her. What has brought up her page ranking is a forum she attached to her website, sometimes there are 30,000 views in one month. Don't know exactly what her monthly statistics are, but picked up the total from one topic in the forum. There is always conversation going on, so  her site is always getting new data based on that forum.

    Interesting thread, I have noticed that google treats my domains different than my hubs.
    Once I get some sort of listing with google with my domains they seem to stay up longer on the first page of google than the hubs.
    
    This traffic has usually been steady but weak in conversions for anything. Adsense ,clickbank etc.
    
    Now the traffic I receive from Craigslist blows all the search engine traffic away.
    
    Please dont start with you are not supposed to advertise affiliate links on Craigs because I do not. I advertise different auto responders that send 1 message to the interested party.
    
    If you want to make money online you have to advertise and get good search engine ratings.
    
    I also place classified ads on high ranking sites, for Sun Seven, Misha, Mark ,Debra, Maddie, Isabella etc etc. Yes all the great content producers I am getting dibs on revenue ;-) Here and there.
    
    Creating the content is one thing but you have to work for the traffic most times.
    
    By getting creative and think out of the box. 
    
    I did a hub and connected it to my ebay auction for my Sailboat.
    
    Its getting traffic from ebay and people are actually signing up to create hubs
    and clicking on the adsense.   Its alot of fun too!
