Copyright does not protect names, titles, slogans, or short phrases. Titles of Books are not copyright protected, and is open to the public domain. The same applies to music copyright. Chords, chord progressions and dynamics in music scores are not copyrighted, they can't be.

Another fact: Anybody can use your title, because according to the law, titles can't be protected. Period. Hubbers get mad when they see their titles are matching to closely with other similar titles.

Also, you can write about Alice In Wonderland, and so can I. I may also write about Alice In Wonderland, just as long as I haven't infringed upon your underlying body of work.

Closely??  How about EXACT?  Rookie you would know about that wouldn't you?  You are STEALING someone else's work and you know it!  You are copying word for word the urls' adding 1 letter or 1 number to the url, the the TITLE is copied EXACTLY.  Not only that you are using the same capsule titles.  So YES this is STEALING...

Come up with your OWN ideas!!

BTW it is also called PLAGIARISM....  Which is different from Copywrite...  you might want to look that one up as well.

Sweetsusieg, maybe you can't comprehend well. Did I not just say that "TITLES" / "SHORT Phrases" / "NAMES" / "SLOGANS"  are not protected?  In Laymen's terms,  I CAN COPY YOUR TITLES, and  I CAN USE YOUR TITLES lawfully.  You're just being emotional, and on top of that, you are a liar. You are bearing false witness. You lied about me stealing your work. You have NOT pointed out one line or sentence where I copied your material. To be honest, I don't give a rat's - - - about you getting all emotional over nothing - who cares.

Go educate yourself on copyright terms, then come back and spit out more of your ignorance.

          Hey Rookie,
I can't blame SweetsusieG for being a little upset. She has already pointed out that you have used her title word for word, "Customer Service- Customer Satisfaction" You may be correct that it is not illegal to do so, but in all fairness do you believe it is ethical to duplicate on purpose another person's title?

I can understand if it was by accident, but going by this thread it can seem to the average person such as myself that you have purposely used the exact same title. I am unsure how you think this will benefit you as far as traffic and money is concerned?

            It is certainly intentional.

He/she has also copied her capsule headers - in other hubs he/she has also copied the images that are being used.

He/She is blatantly and intentionally copying preexisting hubs because he/she is correct that it is not "unlawful"

I am SO glad this Hubber was banned!!  I understand that his Hubs and mine would NOT show on the same Google page... but still it had me upset.  He had gotten 6 of my Hubs and copied titles, urls (all + 1 letter or number) and my capsule titles.  The one that made me the most angry was the one about my Dad..  He did change the picture of that one (though all the others were the same pics)...

This is true that titles are not protected, but I doubt anyone will ever write another "Of Mice and Men", don't you?  Still, I see duplicate titles all over place all the time. There are only so many ways you can put words together.

Something I found really interesting was that Demand Studios will drop you if you use their titles elsewhere. It's part of the Terms of Use, so they don't have to copyright the titles. You can use a rejected or expired article elsewhere, but you can't use the title.

You are correct, Rookie. Make it a hub and give clarifications also of what copyright does cover.

This could be interesting.. So what should someone do if they discover that someone is copying their work in "spirit" but not in "letter" ?

also, until very recently it is actually a very stupid move to reuse an exact title on a domain, as google would only return at most 2 per domain for a search query.

recently that was modified a little
    http://inchoo.net/online-marketing/goog … rp-policy/

Now, its just a little stupid to copy a pre-existing title - perhaps the OP will eventually learn that originality is rewarded online

This user has been banned from Hubpages - guess its not a good idea to open up forum threads bragging that your stealing other writers hubs

    Gotta hurt with 98 hubs.

I was going to say that everyone should share the original...I already stumbled it and shared on facebook.

Speaking of titles, in all fairness, it's difficult in some instances, to come up with an original title which still describes the article.  For example, I started the procedure for starting a new hub, put in the title I wanted and found out someone else had it.  It was an article about olive oil pressing.  No stealing, didn't read other hubs first, just pure coincedence.  I had to change my title but not by much.  Still, someone looking at it might think it was stolen.  I'm not defending unethical stealing, though.

very similar titles are very likely to happen. That wasnt the case in this thread.

But, be aware - if you use the same "keyword strings" as a pre-existing hub, you are far less likely to turn up first in the search results, the older hub will beat you. Its much wiser to be more creative in your title selection when you find yourself unable to get the the title you originally wanted.

I can see similar titles, but not the same title, subtitle, captions, and images.

He might have been correct is assuming that it isn't protected by copywrite, BUT it is Plagiarism.  I looked it up and have grounds to sue him for doing so.  Because he wasn't giving the credit where he found it, he has stifled my creativity...  Hence a lawsuit.

So for all you fellow Hubbers who have been stolen from remember PLAGIARISM...  You have a case!  6 words, without giving credit is all that is needed.  Credit would include but not limited to, where they found it, the Authors name, quotation marks, and a link to the original page. (At the beginning or next to the words)

Just out of curiosity, does HubPages recognize the IP addresses of 'new' Hubbers?  Because if it does then possibly those who have been banned for one reason or another could be immediately flagged when trying to start a 'new' Hub account.

    Just an idea!

Im going to guess they try..but I wonder how many new hubbers sign up every day? I've seen seen some banned people make it back for a day or two, even longer, but eventually they get found out. I bet it would be nearly impossable to manualy check each new IP adress right away, there is alot more going on. Probably why the "flag this profile" button exists.

We have a system in place to prevent banning a public WiFi. There have been a few instances where hubbers who were banned attempted to convince us that their IPs belonged to a library. Those claims proved to be false.

Recreated accounts generally use proxy IP addresses. It would be best if you flagged the profile you believe to be a recreation, along with a direction towards the evidence ("forum post in Knowledge Exchange," for example).

I suppose if you find that someone has written a hubpage that simply isn't up to scratch then you could use the same hub title and do better than their hubpage, because if they aren't going to take the time to make the effort then you take control and beat them to it!

You make your hubpage twice as long and interesting with interlinked content and spill over into another hub or two if you need to. Lazy people who try and copy and paste and cut corners just won't ever get anywhere!
