Just curious do any hubbers use other forums to increase traffic to their hubs? Let me be clear I am not talking about spam. I am referring to if you are already active say in a forum on technology would you or do you post your technology hub link in the forum to give readers information pertaining to the forum?
I do, where it is welcome. I was active on a forum, and one of the members specifically asked me when I was going to post a review of a certain item. I did that consequently for a couple of items, and I got a surge of traffic, some of which resulted in Adsense revenue. I think they saw the Adsense ads before the Amazon ones on my hub.
That forum had no specific rules about posting links; however, many of them do require that you place your links in the signature line.
If you have a good repute in the forums then people are more likely to visit the link in your signatures .
from my experience %90 of forums treat you as if you are spam.
I only use forums if there is a chance I will get high volumes of related traffic. I do not use forum posting services which tend to spam all the small forums where the owner has either abandoned the site or is too new to the game to learn how to block spam.
@thisisoli Yes I am researching that very possiblity of increased traffic by using forums. I do want to note I am only using forums for specialized subjects or topics. I am looking at forums which have a particular group of consumers. For example, individuals who are financial savy, and welcome signature links in the forums message boards.
I have just started trying to use forums for backlink purposes and I am finding most treat you as a spammer right off the bat.For example my latest hub on Armless living Room Chairs, I followed the rules on The Furniture Forum and placed my add in the vendors section. Completely legitimate and legal by their rules. Within an hour of it being on there I got 9 hits to my hub from it,yet it was also pulled down by the moderator who said his site was for legitimate furniture sales only. What the heck is that supposed to mean. I think many people previously from hubpages and similar sites spamming the crap out of forums such as that one have left them thinking everything that comes from Hubpages must be spam and of a low quality.
To further add, I would love if someone with the knowledge of online forums could do a hub on forums that allow links being added into your signature, as these would be the easiest to work with and you would not have to worry about being considered a spammer or breaking their rules.
@BenjaminB I hear you! I had this to happen some time ago due to the flood of hubpages links on a particular site. I was messing around last night on a site, and I just had the idea to post my youtube link. I understand youtube is a completely different animal. To my surprise it worked, so I thought lets try it again with a different link. The same happened a surge of traffic. This is what gave me the idea to try it in forums that allow signature links.
As of now I have joined one, but have not posted a link. Will let you know what happens, I carefully when over all the rules, so will keep you posted.
If you are a respected member of the forums then you could get quite a bit of traffic from your sigs.

This might be my last forum post because I am tired. I can't be wasting my time beating a dead horse.HP is a business and they need to start treating their business more seriously. They need a task force to sit and brain storm about how to keep spammers out in the first place.I know that I have...

I've come to the conclusion that in order to get people to even look at your hubs, you must post in these forums. It may help get a few more fans, but if it doesn't, what have you lost. I've come here to hubber's hangout to see if anybody will become curious about my writing. I'm guessing I'm not...

I suggest that HP prevent any registered user from posting a new topic to the forums if they have no hubs. They can comment but not start new threads. Most forums that I use have this restriction in place.

I have been seeing a lot of forum spam lately. I think it could be *greatly* reduced by only allowing new sign-ups to post under the help section until they've published one hub. After they've published their first hub, then they could post anywhere. I think this would deter a lot of the people who...

all the people I see spamming the forums are signing up long enough to post on the forum but aren't writing any hubs. So ... I was thinking. Why not require three hubs from a person before they can post in the forums? They would still be allowed to read to their heart's content, but they would need...
