The Sustainable Growth Rate, created in 1997 as part of the Balanced Budget Act, was meant to control federal health care costs by reducing physician fees per patient as the number of Medicare patients grew, said Dr. Fred Hyde of the Columbia University School of Public Health. But each time cuts were supposed to be implemented, Congress either raised physician fees or kept them the same, Hyde said.

This year, however, Congress abandoned the strategy of passing one-year fixes and passed short-term postponements for a few months at a time. As a result, a Dec. 1 deadline that would impose a 23 percent cut on doctors' reimbursements looms. As of Jan. 1, an additional 1.9 percent cut would go into effect if Congress doesn't take action.

The whole idea for the GOP is to create a crisis for seniors in Medicare and blame it on Obamacare to energize the senior base. The rate cut will cause a lot of doctors to drop medicare patients. What FOX won't report and seniors won't realize is that the 23% cut in Medicare rates has NOTHING to do with the HCR that was passed. And seniors won't believe - but it's true - the democrats are trying to PREVENT the cuts and the GOP is trying to make cuts happen because the GOP is certain they can control the message.

    Agreed.

Besides, the doctors aren’t the ones wrecking Medicare anyway.

It’s the d@mned thieving hospitals, ambulance companies, etc.

Oh, they control it allright. I remember watching an interview with a senior woman...she said she was afraid of Obama's plan because she really thought President Obama  was trying to kill her! (Death Panels)
