Do you or have you, ever clicked on a news link in a Hub's capsule?
If yes, was it to........................?
If no, did you want to finish Hub and move on? Or ................................?
How many Hubs a day do you seek a News report via capsule link? A week? A month?
Have you actually ever?
What is information overload I suppose I am asking? Is this capsule, as others, even being noticed? Are Hubs getting cluttered?
I guess I use this example because each layout I include the latest News in, I think, who would click this when, if interested, could later seek topic relevant info from News place they already enjoy?
I have been here about 18 months and never once on mine or another Hub did I click News link. My interests when I am less busy, are visited to my reg places.
I believe based on this I most likely will not be using news capsules and expand similar Hubs on topic.
Thanks
Just no one ever discusses improvements by elimination, and would love to know what ya'll think
Cheers
I always put my News capsules right down the bottom of the Hub, beneath the comments, where they're not going to make things look cluttered.
They're not there for people to read - they're there for Google to read.
Why is it a shame? Basically it's what Red said - provided you've used an appropriate keyword, the News capsule simply adds relevant content to the Hub - which makes it more attractive to the search engines, so people are more likely to find your Hub.
I never have. But then, in all honesty, I know enough about doing research to know not to go to a hubpage article for information other than the lightest of fare if my sources matter. There are some who might follow a news feed, perhaps a high school kid doing research or something not realizing he's A) on a .com site, and B) on one that isn't even a commercial interest related to his/her topic.
I'm sure there are several HP writers who put really good newslinks on their stuff, but, well, be shocked if any statistically significant number of them across HP hubs get clicked.
Beyond that, I expect it's mostly just a device to create the illusion of quality content (or even actual quality content) to spiders.
Of course I may be totally wrong.
I don't think you're wrong, Shades - Kimberly, I have clicked on a few news links - actually a couple were almost as interesting then a the hubs they were attached to
I do think the news capsules are more of a way for us to get "fresh" content into the hubs without manually visiting every blessed one of them ourselves, than a way to illuminate our work. I find that some do genuinely add value, with interesting stories.
I try to make them as appropriate to the hub as possible, but sometimes they are a bit generic of necessity.
They seem to help - I'm not 100% sure, really, so I just add 'em automatically - we live in hope.
Never have clicked on one. Probably never will as I never look at those.

I'm trying to understand RSS feeds. I think the capsule is a reader that aggreates feeds from other websites, but I'm not sure

I was just on my account page and some hubs are listed in purple. What does this mean? Thanks.

I feel bound by my pride as a writer not to click it but it looks more tempting every time I scroll by to check my polls
