Adsense Doesn't Understand Me

I have written a hub about politics and stuff.

But the adverts are just rubbish for my intended audience.  Gifts and other merchandising - useless.

I have tried stressing my point as much as I can in the first para's, but I don't want to ruin what I have done (don't laugh), by saying politics, politics, politics all the time.

Any ideas please?  Does bolding stuff work?

Oh.  This is not a self promotional thing, I genuinely need some of that good old expert advice.

I'm certainly not an expert, but I do have a thought. Since the hubscore is 50, I assume you just published that? If so--give it time. I also took a look at one or two other similar hubs, and they seem to have the same problem.

Until a real expert comes along, the best advice I've got is to go through other related hubs, find one where the ads are working properly and then do what they do. smile

    Love the hub, btw...

Thanks for looking, and your nice comment!

I will give it till tomorrow then.

I do find that editing a piece to make it Adsense friendly can sometimes make it lose its immediacy / power - it's hard sometimes getting back into the frame of mind at the original time of writing.

I am no expert but if I thought my ads. did not match my content I would look to the tags and the title, your keyword used at points in the hub and the summary might be useful. Having said that I just guess at these things so you might need an experts advice.

What about the tags, are there any words you use in the article that can go in the tags to reinforce the subject matter?

Thanks 2uesday, I will try to remember to check that tomorrow (it's late here).

Tonight I have been going through putting keywords in Bold in the hope that will improve the Adsense targetting.

I can't just stay on message all the time because English is a large language - I'm not that keen on repeating the same phrase multiple times.

Tags... good idea.  Title, summary.  Ah well, at least I only have to do this learning curve once.

Mark I have been here fifteen months and I am still learning, you have a good approach and that is bond to help you.

Thirty five hubs in five weeks is good going, some things are more complex than others.

Thanks 2uesday, I've put quite a bit of effort in... by my normal standards anyway.  It does help loving it though, really enjoying every moment.

Mark - Adsense doesn't dislike you, it simply doesn't know what ads to place. Are you talking about democracy, freedom of speech (I know they're almost the same but ... ) policing etc etc? The problem isn't so much the content as the topic. It's not particularly prime advertising. Politics (and related) don't really come under service provision, it's not a tangible product, you can't sell it.

Plus the tags are pretty pants. Six is not really enough.

As a hub, it's great. But I'd file it under 'self-interest', kinda like the ones I've written about ancient history. Some topics just don't/won't/can't work with Adsense.

The bottom line is this: if you want to write for Adsense do the research first. You'll be surprised at what you'll find that has potential to earn - that's in your current range of personal interests. And you'll find a whole lot more that isn't ... but they're lucrative. And if you want to earn online ... smile

Thanks frogdropping, especially for your frankness.  I need to have a big think.

edit:  OK I've had a think.  I'm best when I'm doing something I believe in.  I don't really believe in product, not yet.  So I need to maximise what I can do, and what may work for potential readers with the best possiblity of click through income.

May not be the profitable end, but it's my end if yswim.

Mark, if I understand Adsense correctly (a pretty big IF) it is normally set to display ads targeted to the reader.  If it can't find ads related to the hub, then when YOU look at the hub you will see ads targeted to YOUR OWN past history.

I tried turning this feature off, but think it hurt my earnings.  In any case, my goal is to earn money, and if that means advertising widgets unrelated to the hub but interesting to the reader, then that's fine.

Thanks wilderness.  I was beginning to understand that - certainly the ads seemed to be based on general browsing experience.  I need to get a more solid thread running through it ( and other pieces) and put some effort into this.

It's funny, given that the whole purpose is to write and get paid, that I had completely lost sight of ensuring my Adsense was related to my traffic from searches.

I feel like a newbie all over again.

I am not exactly sure of what ads are used for 'political' topics but maybe add something to do with 'education' that may bring up these sort of ads which may be far more useful to the reading audience. smile Just a thought.

Thanks DS.  I have realised, (oh I'm so glad I posted it here earlier), that there isn't much Adsense related stuff for politics, democracy and so on.  This was probably obvious to everyone except me.

I couldn't tell the difference between writing about plush toys - and ping, ping - adverts everywhere - and writing about political issues - and whirr, click adverts zilch.

I am going off to stand on the newbie step in the forum while people throw things at me.

      Thanks to all.

There is oodles of political adsense stuff. There is almost as much money in that as religion. wink

Just remember - google watches everything you do and will show you ads it thinks are appropriate for you. I will see different ads than you see, such as this:

Thanks Mark - It's weird the Google watching you thing.  That might explain when I view it it just comes up with loads of Gay Russian porn.  I told my wife it was probably a virus.

At the moment, five weeks in, I am stuck in a hyper stat checking mode, watching every click, every clue on Analytics.

I think I probably need to walk away from the computer for a while.

Oh yeah - it gets that way. Especially if you have decided to make a living at this. Wait until you are two years in when you actually know if what you did worked or not. sad

If your wife asks me I will agree it is probably a virus.  big_smile

Hmph... this is the first political sales hub I have ever seen.

Good luck, Mark, you are breaking new ground.

I wonder if the catholic church has an affiliate program? I bet if you get 10% commission on indulgences, you could make a fortune.
