My seldom read blog is on first page of Google???

   OK so this is very weird. I've been following the algo change, blah blah blah. And I'm looking around checking Google search for my hubs key words. I always backlink to my personal blog, and have found that some high ranking words are showing my blog near the top of Google search on first page. OK so that's a good thing but how could my blog content be considered as ranking high with only a few words on the page? Is my name driving traffic perhaps at this point? If so maybe I should be putting my name in all my hubs??? Just trying to figure out some oddities here as we all are.....

      I believe that the new change was supposed to have something to do with the reputation of the author.  Congratulations!  You've got a good rep with Google!

         Someone at church told me yesterday that they had a prophetic dream about me being on stage at big conventions being touted as a new rookie author!! I was talking about my book (which is yet unfinished)
         
         Maybe that will happen if Google likes me..lol!!!

            Well, I certainly wish you luck with that.  It's tough for any of us to make any kind of living with writing.  Keep on with HP, and keep on writing.  I might crank out some short stories or even a short novel at some point; but getting published is another thing altogether.

      No you sure can't Misha!! How in the world could a page with 2 sentences outrank the hub and other sites for the key words??

      OH no don't get me wrong, I'm NOT complaining. It's just my highly analytical side of my brain trying to understand...lol!!!
      
      And YES, trying to figure out what I need to do with this nice little high ranking blog now!!! What changes I need to make!!

         Your blog on renting a room is showing up on page 1. To fatten up your blog, think about who rents a room - college students and single people. They may be out on their own for the first time. I'd start with basics:
         
         1) Write an article on how to boil a hot dog, cook a small roast or bake a panini.
         
         2) Buy a good mattress without getting ripped off.
         
         3) Where to get coupons for a pizza.
         
         4) First pet: how to choose the best dog or cat.
         
         5) The cheapest cable TV offer.
         
         You can write dozens of articles targeting first-time small apartment dwellers. Sounds like you're sitting on a potential gold mine.

   The competition for this phrase:
   
   Things To Consider When Renting Out A Room
   
   ....is low.
   
   Although Google did make changes, hubpages still has a good amount of authority.
   
   When competition is low it's not hard to rank for a phrase like that.

      Yes but it's not the hub that ranked high..it's my blog backlink that is ranking number 5 on first page. I don't even know where the hub itself went...gotta go check that out. Plus I've seen this on some other pretty competitive keywords - my blog is far outranking the hubs and placing on first page.

         As someone else pointed out in these forums, google appears to be broken right now.
         
         There has also been speculation that the new algorithm is a learning type of software and will require time to learn what is good and what is not.

   @jr) What doesn't make sense though are there are better key word articles that should rank higher than my blog

   Dorsi, Here's something interesting to check out... Click the stats button on that hub and then click the keywords tab. You'll see a list of all the keyword phrases people were using in search engines to come to your hub.  That may give a clue as to why the hub is coming up so high in Google.
