The Search phrases continues to disappear from Google first page 1, the obvious is hubpages.com. My popular phrases have been replaced by schools, shops and classified ads. To me this is a wake up call for dependency on one avenue. So this call for quality hubs and more so some diversification

Google keeps working on the algorithm to provide the searchers/users the best results.
As long as you focus on the same thing as google. Being the best result for the users, then you will change with google.

hubpages and other sites have been hurt by the new change against content farmers.
That's why there should be an even stricter policy on duplicate content on hubpages.

I do agree, there should be some basic minimum for a hub to provide high quality for end users but not just for Search Engine

Diversification is definitely a good idea. I'm trying to focus on my site that relies least on google traffic, if for no other reason than that I yearn for a world in which I didn't have to worry about the damned google serps.

And i have noticed a lot of fluctuations in the goolge serps still for my own content. The general decline in traffic I first got seems to have stopped, but I'm still seeing a lot of changes with some pages going up and others going down.

I do agree with you kephrira, I have also started a personal website to be my main source of online revenue and compliment it with Hubpages

    Thats a good assessment oderdog.

I have decided to leave my hubs for now and am focused on learning mysql and php for my websites.

If google wants to place products at the top then I am going to build shopping carts hence my new focus avenue.

Good luck and let us know what you find.

I know quantity of words is perceived as the important issue but I would rather read a short well written response to my search than a lengthy document full of waffle.

I have read Google wants to give priority to the experts, which sounds good. At the moment when you do a search to check for UK lottery numbers, at the present time the official site comes up 3rd or 4th on page one of Google.

Some issues are more important than lottery numbers; as I recall they took into consideration when making the changes that people searching for medical information should be able  to find expert advice. Maybe they need to keep tweaking it and they are evolving it to achieve a service that will be more accurate in its results.

Maybe that is why ehow is doing so well? To be honest, the majority of ehow pages I've seen are short and sweet - lacking in any deeper information certainly - but they do answer the question.
