Was browsing a few hubs last night when a largeish 'film' type advert came up about changing your life etc .. so farok .. a bit hippyish but why not ... but then at the end came the message ... scientology.xxx ....  Now I know we all have personaly views but I'd be less than happy if that appeared on one of my hubs ... wonder if HP staff are aware and what policy they have on ads like this.

I blocked the scientology ad from my Adsense account a long time ago and would strongly recommend that everybody else does the same.  The last thing this wold needs is another religion.

You can block specific adverts from appearing on your impressions. I think it is found under ad blacklist or something.  Just enter scientology.org and you should never have another stupid advert from them!

I looked at blocking ads but could only block certain pretty broad categories - making it difficult to specify particular organisations etc - maybe I wasn't doing it right ?

Hate to say it, but it's your fault. Ads that look out of place, such as scientology, are called public service ads and they are displayed because adsense has not been able to find suitable ads for your page due to lack of good keywords.

Scientology ads have been around for more than a year. You may be able to filter them on your impressions, but not on HP's. Also, you will see them a lot on others' hubs.

I filter them out. I know that HubPages doesn't filter them but I sure do. I also filter out a few other types of ads that are known for being like 1 cent clicks. I am not sure how much scientology pays per click -- I COULD look it up, but even if it paid a lot I wouldn't allow it to show up in my hubs.

I feel the same about all religions and new age mystical, magical and medical stuff.

scientology does not appear as a PSA - its a paid ad and can be blocked, as are the mormon videos.

I suspect no religion falls under the psa label.

As far as I'm concerned anything is a PSA that acts like one. And they too can be blocked.
