Was justice served with the lethal killing of the three Filipinos in China?

I doubt it.  China, I'm told, loves to harvest the organs of those that they execute.

Is there a none lethal killing!!

Justice is never served by killing people, no matter how bad they are.

Sorry, but no, justice is never served by killing, revenge maybe but revenge isn't justice.

Correct.  Government endorsed murder serves no purpose other than vengeance.

And it certainly doesn't serve to deter crime...

This is a mantra of the anti-capital punishment lobby - but it is a myth.

I am generally against the death penalty for many reasons but I also have issues with predatory paedophiles, Company heads who commit crimes against the general population etc.

Recently here in China a teacher was found guilty of molesting small children in his care
The two guys directly responsible for the melamine contamination of milk in China that caused a few deaths and loads of harm to children - were shot.

I now find that I am divided - I can agree wholeheartedly with those sentences, but I am still generally against the death penalty.

Yeah, China has the death penalty, and look at them: they don't have nay child molesters or deadly corporate shortcuts...oh, wait, I got that backward: in spite of their death penalty, China still has child molesters and deadly corporate shortcuts.

                  Heh.

Revenge and Justice, opposite sides of the same coin. wink

I've said this before and I will gladly repeat myself- the ancient ideology that humankind must answer to a higher authority continues to rule.

Either a god or a government. People cannot be trusted nor are they trusted, to do what is right, even for themselves.

Justice is about the survival of the human species. Revenge is the action of the gullible and naive.

What is in the best interests of the human species outweighs any individual's individual rights. wink

Quite right too, but how does that fit with the taking of life?

The "death penalty" does have a role to play presently, but doesn't if society/humanity is civilized, which it's not. There are plenty of other factors that would need to be addressed, such as how it should be applied/used and what specifics are needed to rate such a sentence.

It's truly about the greater good. wink

I think the first thing to be addressed is absolute certainty.

Then the effect on the executioner, it's the sort of job that should be denied to anybody who wants to do it smile

Cagsilposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Absolute certainty? I'm not going to get into a debate about the innocent person going to prison or about the number of innocent people who have been executed.

                    That will just be non-productive.
The effects on the executioner? I think you're stuck in the old days John, especially if you want to look it from that person's perspective. In today's world, people will take a job that they do not want, so whether or not, the person wants it, isn't much of a factor.

However, we are off-topic regardless. You're arguing/discussing from a UK perspective and I'm from the USA, and the topic here is China. So, I'll leave it as is here. wink

the last executioner of NY state killed himself.  I'll bet the ones in Texas are not mentally healthy either.

Not at all, nobody has any right to kill any living entity. Life is a gift of god. We must respect it.

When can justice be really just?

No, justice dose not even work in nature, the cougar eats the coyote, and the coyote eats the rabbit and so on. Revenge is like digging two graves, one for them and one for you, as family feuds’ never end...
