Should Derrick Rose Win MVP this year in the NBA?

   I think he should.  Not only is he putting up career numbers this year, but he also led the Bulls to the best record in the Eastern Confernce; in spite of injuries to key players like Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer during parts of the season. 
   
   However, what are your thoughts?  You think he deserves the MVP?

      Yes. His record stands for itself and this year he has been outstanding. With the Bulls going into the playoffs, Chicago is rooting for this young man.

      The NBA's system for choosing an MVP needs a complete overhaul. Every great player is ultimately judged by how many titles he has won, yet voting for the NBA MVP takes place before the Playoffs even begin. If Rose lays an egg in round two this week and the Bulls get knocked off, does he really deserve the MVP? Let's face it, the only thing that matters in the NBA is the Playoffs, so why vote on the MVP before we even see how the most important segment of the season unfolds? Shouldn't the Most Valuable Player actually prove it on the highest level?The best example is 1994, when David Robinson won MVP, then proceeded to get embarassed by Hakeem the Dream in the Playoffs. I had to turn the TV off during that series, because I was so embarassed for Robinson.

         I understand what you're getting at, but the NBA MVP is a regular season award. There is also an NBA Finals MVP award that is tailored more for what you're getting at in your criteria. Hakeem also happened to win the Finals MVP award in the year you're speaking of so he did not go unrewarded for being the true MVP.

   I love Kobe and think he should def have more than 1 MVP, but D Rose deserves it. There is no question about it.

   Yes. This is the one NBA regular season award that is a foregone conclusion. I'm not a huge fan of Rose's for whatever reason but he has elevated his game this season to an elite level. As Steven mentioned, he carried the Bulls this season as Boozer and Noah were not even in the lineup together for many more than 20 games this season due to injuries. Furthermore, he is the best player on the team that finished the regular season with the best record in the NBA.
   
   Rose has grown as a leader, as a player, and is nearly impossible to defend now that he has transformed from a player that defenders could lay off of out on the perimeter into a guy who can knock down three-pointers at will. His long-range shooting improvement combined with his explosiveness in getting to the basket is unreal.
   
   There really are not any other candidates to challenge for the award this year:
   
   - LeBron James was not going to win it this season unless the Heat won 70 games due to the fact he plays with Wade and Bosh.
   
   - Kobe's minutes were reduced this season and the Lakers coasted through the regular season. Pau Gasol was just as valuable to the Lakers this season.
   
   - Dwight Howard had a monster season, but his Orlando team vastly under-achieved. If Orlando's record would have been close to the Bulls, then Howard would have nabbed this award because his offensive game improved and he is the best defensive player in the NBA. He dominates games on both sides of the ball.
   
   - Kevin Durant and the Thunder did not break through with the type of season many predicted to this point. Although he won the scoring title, his numbers were down slightly this season from last. Russell Westbrook also emerged as a superstar player and was just as valuable to the Thunder.
   
   - Dirk's numbers were also down slightly this season, but he may have had a chance if he did not miss 9 games this season. You'd think the fact that the Mavs were 2-7 without him that would help his chances, but I think the Mavs early exits from the playoffs nearly every season makes people look past him.

   MVP literally stands for Most Valuable Player.  Derrick Rose is just that.  If he were to be injured than the Bulls would fall into obscurity again.  With Derrick Rose on the team, they are playoff contenders.  As for LBJ, he is an amazing player just like Dwyane Wade, Paul Pierce, and countless others; but without Lebron the Heat would still have Wade and Bosh to hold them down.  Without Rose the Bulls have.....C.J. Watson and John Lucas at the Point.  Rose is the MVP of the team, the conference, and the NBA.  End of story.
