Confused. Hubmobs, Contests... always lost.

I'm always confused by the hubmobs and contests.  I understand that they are different things.  There is hubmob, who all attack a given subject; there are contests, which run for a specific amount of time.  Sometimes the two run together, when a contest is run and the hubmobbers decide to follow the contest subject/dates.

Now.... I did once manage to get to grips with one of the contests and hubmobs.  I managed to post loads of stuff for one (even won some of those $50 bonuses)... but every time I log into Hubpages I think "I'll find the contest, I'll do that again" - and invariably I get lost trying to unravel what's going on, where, the start/end dates.

Can anybody help me to find the definitive starting point - the page/s I need to watch when I log in to find out what's happening, when and how to join in.

I see I've just missed the writing contest, which ends in a few hours.  And I tried to understand the current hubmob (and failed) and wasn't sure when it started/ends, so shied away from it.

There's so much on hubpages it's easy to get lost - and I've decided for May I need to enter/follow a contest and generate some content regularly again.

    Thanking you in anticipation smile

The latest contest has just finished - today in fact. I don't expect there will be one in May, so you will be able to just concentrate on the HubMob.

Check the forums, in particular the tagged subjects at the top of the page. There is a new HubMob announced every Monday. See if you can do one a week through May, then when a new contest is announced it should be discussed in the HubMob.

Also it will help if you read the email that is sent to you each week. Then you will find out when the next contest is held.

Ah, so watch out for Mondays. Great.  From my perspective Monday's almost gone when Hubpages has its Monday (if you see what I mean).  I think I'm 9 hours ahead.

Read the email .... ah ... do you know, in 4 years of being on Hubpages I don't think I've read one yet.  I get about 200-300 emails/day from various 'things I've signed up to' .... I kind of collect all the emails and don't have time to read them.

Yes, I'll do the Hubmob in May then... and now know there's no contest that month.

        Thx

Hub Mob is usually at the top of the forums, and is also highlighted in the Hubber's Hangout forum.  I'm pretty sure you can still submit to a HubMob topic, even after the week is over, if you use the proper topic category.  I'm not sure if there are any changes to the HubMob RSS feed. Princessa oversees the HubMob.

    Hi earner!

Sorry for any confusion.  TinaAtHome and rebekahELLE are right- and if you want to go to ONE page that explains it all, visit our contests page!  That's where we have a summary of all past and present contests big_smile

The next contest is currently being planned.  Chances are it'll be in July, though the dates are not yet set in stone.  For updates, keep an eye out in the forums, on our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/Hubpages.com), and in our Twitter feed (http://twitter.com/#!/HubPagesDotCom).  The newsletter will also give any important contest updates as the dates approach.

I think it's the contests page that confused me most this time.  It's all written in a style I can't absorb.  I'm a "list reader", I can follow instructions, but can't absorb creative/colourful writing styles smile

When I went there this time there was this thing about "4" and I got confused and it didn't give any start/end dates and it was all ... just ... overwhelming.

      smile

I don't use Facebook unless I really, really have to, it's confusing and tries to prise its way into everywhere/everything and i don't want it knowing where I go smile

Keep an eye out in the Forums - that's so time consuming as there's so much in the forums.  I find if I head for the forums, those are the days when i can't get any writing done smile

I'll try to keep up, but it's kind of information overload and information spaghetti.

Oh yes, following HubPages on Facebook is a really good idea. Especially if you are on Facebook all the time!

It's full of annoying people who want to "poke" you, get you to join in some dodgy group, or receive flowers/cabbages and send them to others.  **lost**

      smile

I just want to write stuff on hubpages really smile

All this other fluff gets in the way of that.
