I am planning to start websites in about a week. Is a niche site or a super site more likely to succeed. By super site I mean a website where you can write about anything and everything.
All the best. Its the right mindset at the moment considering the flow of things. The sad part is, the REAL EXPERTS who can guide you on this, are elsewhere, building or promoting their own sustainance. They left the forums to the pseudo-experts.
Best Regards
I have a website which covers many niches, I don't know if I'd call it a super-site quite yet, but there are some pages which are so popular that I am spinning them off into their own websites. I am editing the new site as I speak. The feedback convinced me I am on the right track.
That said, having a niche is great. But just make sure you can get a lot of mileage from that niche. Websites are the way to go, and niche blogs are too. I salute you on your website, and I look forward to seeing it some day! There are about 3,000 free Blogger templates on the web I have seen and they look awesome. Anyone could use one of them to have an instant web or blog site on Blogger or whatever. (Blogger lets you have Adsense and Amazon ads on them.) And You could add your hub links and have them as back-links for your hubs that suit that niche. It's a cakewalk.
Blogger is fine for backlinks- but again its a site like hubpages that you don't control totally - plenty of blogger blogs have been summarily shutdown by google (who owns blogger) - my real money sites are all self-hosted wordpress blogs - even though some of them look like websites
Usually a niche site is better. A "super site" requires a LOT of content, a lot of keyword research and Google can get confused as to what your subject is, so it may be harder to rank.
For a first site, niche is the way to go.
I agree with WryLilt. Unless you are talking about Wikipedia-type of site, a lot of content, a niche site is always better.
It's the "little guy's" (that's us) only hope of competing.
So Niche sites seems to be the name of the online game. Now would you target adsense, amazon or both for the site especially post panda.
It really depends what your topic is and how many advertisers are in that area - as well as what your CTR will be for that topic.
For instance, a site geared at information for internet strategy gaming will likely not get many clicks because gamers are internet savvy. However gamers are the first to buy eBook strategy guides and the like.
Decide on your topic and then look at what affiliates are available - simple Google "Subject" Affiliates.
I have never known this to be true, I have been into gaming for over 10 years online and there is such a wealth of free forums and information on them (and always has been) that there is no point in wasting money on a crappy ebook that someone has thrown together in a couple of days.
I have seen many of these so called books that have been released, and one for Runescape for instance is so bad to be laughable; it was basically something thrown together by someone who obviously hasn't played the game and is using very old information.
Buy feather @ 2gp
Sell feather @ 12gp
(A quick look on the game would tell you instantly that this does not work)
I have written many guides and strategies for games over the years including the #1 money making guide for the game mentioned above, not one person has ever paid for them and quite frankly I would wonder at their IQ if they did lol
A site about "everything", so to speak.
Like Wikipedia, for example.
So I think you mean a large site that covers everything. Not a little blog that doesn't focus on one subject - that's just a mess.
May be, what is implied is a site with no particular niche and it covers general topics.
Niche is the way to go, especially when your starting out. As for how narrow the niche it can be hard to say.
My take is, "pet toys" is too broad. "dog toys" is just right. "rubber dog toys" is too narrow.
However you could make sub-domains within the main one that is very narrow. Make sure you have your key words in the domain.
Start with niche sites - the successful ones can be developed into much bigger sites if that's what you want to do.
Niche sites (plural) is the only way to go right now. A niche site can be built in about a day and if properly backlinked can be earning a dollar a day in just a few weeks. The goal is to get to a dollar a day then move on to the next niche rinse and repeat until you are earning enough to LIVE ON!
I have about 20 in my portfolio now all earning between $3 and $5 a day. My goal is to add 2 sites per week for the rest of the year or until I reach 100 sites, all earning near the same. If all goes well, I'll double that the following year.
I second this! In fact that is what I am working on right now, making many new, narrow niche sites.
Another thing to think about. After you have had those sites for 6 months to a year, you can sell them for anywhere from a few hundred to thousands.

Only the best Hubs on HubPages are being moved to niches, so everything on the niche sites is spam free and trash free. There are no pieces written in broken English or written in ways that appear to be spun. Everything that's low quality is left behind. Even the ads are high-quality on the niche...

Hi,Do more experienced Hubbers have any useful tips for getting your article moved to a niche site? I kept seeing advice that goes something like "make sure you write a high-quality article" but it just seems so vague to me. I have 9 articles now and the only one that was moved to a niche...

I pretty much have the same amount of traffic everyday but last week 5 of my hubs were moved to niche sites and since then I've has less half the traffic as normal. What could cause that?

Under each niche site's more tab (upper left) you could search specifically for articles under that site. Is there a way to still do this? The search bar is gone and the magnifying glass makes me search all of Maven. If I wanted to search all of Maven, I would go to the Maven site. How are we...

I already have a number of hubs moved to the Hubpages network sites, but haven't really seen a drastic traffic change in said hubs. So, is it worth the risk to submit one of my hubs that already receives a decent amount of daily views to a vertical site?I'd hate to see aforementioned hub drop in...
