I know using a spinner is a violation of policy.

I think a couple of hubbers had some issues with talking about spinners.

If that's the case, why are hubs about article spinning ok?  There are some with the code included.

    Are  they allowed?

No, those are not allowed. We have filters that scan for new hubs about article spinners, but they have not gone through old content yet.

You're welcome! It is very frustrating to find this kind of content still published. I promise you we haven't forgotten about it. smile

Prohibiting content on article spinners is a recent change to policy, and there is a lot of old content we need to get through.

It might help if I give some background on how the moderation team reviews hubs. We have a system that feeds hubs that are flagged (whether by the bot or by readers) into an interface that allows us to quickly moderate them, very much like the hub hopper. The only way we can quickly moderate this type of content is to push these hubs into queues within the interface. If we ran the filter against all published content, the queues would fill up within a couple of hours. We are running the filters against sections of published content, but it takes a long time to find all the violations that have been published on HubPages.

OK, thanks. So it is faster to have filter and flagged hubs specifically than to just go by , ex: article-spinners?

It is faster to have hubs caught by the filter or by flags, but if you do notice a pattern of behavior on one account you can always flag the profile. Profile flags are lower on our priority list right now than Submitted for Review, team emails, and certain flagged queues, so it may take us a couple of days to review the profile.

If you ever notice that a hub that is a clear violation remains published, you can email team and we'll see why it wasn't taken down.

OK, thanks again. There has been discussions about flagging profile vs individual hubs and everyone seems unclear as to why some hubs or profile remained up.
Especially when one says a hub is indeed in a clear violation.

Hopefully this explanation you gave helps others as well to understand.
I normally will enter a message in the explanation box if I see a "clear violation." I did that a little while ago with a copied article from another site turned into a hub. (link included in flag)

We only take down a whole profile if there is a series of serious violations. We try to give old accounts the benefit of the doubt, and give them some opportunity to correct their violations. In those cases, we moderate in a way that won't be as obvious to the person who flagged the profile.

Of course, mistakes happen, so don't be shy if you notice a hub with serious problems hasn't been unpublished within a couple of days.

p.s. Posting links where duplicate content in a hub appears helps us out quite a bit, thank you for doing that! 57 hubs have been flagged as duplicate since yesterday afternoon, and checking for duplicate content that our bot has missed is very time consuming.

Just thinking...you have explained this very well in this thread. This would make a good HP Blog. Maybe (?) it would help to cool a few tempers?

I agree, I've been drafting something over the past couple of days. I'm going to chat with Simone on Monday and decide whether to put this together as a video or a blog post.

Or maybe both? I only have dial-up and there are others in the same boat on that. Videos take to long to load and if it's streaming...lol, no way!
That's why I don't go near the podcasts that are being used now or the videos in the Learning center.

                    I'm looking forward to this.

In case you hadn't noticed, the biggest single complaint from Hubbers is the perception that the HubPages moderating team appears to have no priorities, and are wasting time fixing minor problems in good Hubs instead of going after the big offenders.

I think you're saying that although it doesn't make sense to us, it would actually be slower to try to prioritize. If you could make it clear why that is, it would go a long way to appeasing Hubbers' concerns.
