UPDATE:  here is the latest for a candidate who has not annouced he is running, did not debate, was not at the event and still polled well Look out, my ticket looks good
NEW ORLEANS – Rep. Ron Paul easily won a Republican Leadership Conference straw poll of the party's 2012 presidential contenders on Saturday, but the real surprise was the sudden surge of former Ambassador Jon Huntsman.

Huntsman finished a surprising second in the poll behind Paul, even though Huntsman skipped last Monday's GOP debate in New Hampshire. According to Reuters, Paul brought busloads of supporters to the conference while Huntsman was unable to attend because of illness.

If you ignore the propaganda of Newsmax and go with the most recent Gallop poll you get a different story. Huntsman polls at 1% and Bachmann at 4%. The frontrunner is Romney at 24% followed by Palin at 14%.

So why has Newsmax promoted these 2 losers? Romney can't get the support of evangelical voters because he's Mormon. Polls show Palin is not electable in a general election even though evangelicals love her.

Read between the lines when you see propaganda sources like Newsmax.

Do you know and understand waht a straw poll is and how it works? I am not sure you know the difference froma Gallop poll and a Straw poll. A straw poll is much more accurate than a Gallop poll. But it doesnot mean if you win the straw Polls you get the nomination, but it is a good start

A formal straw poll is common in American political caucuses. Such straw polls can be taken before selecting delegates and voting on resolutions. The results of straw polls are taken by the media to influence delegates in caucus later (as well as delegates to political conventions), and thus serve as important precursors. Straw polls are also scheduled informally by other organizations interested in the U.S. presidential election.
Well-known American straw polls include the Ames Straw Poll and the Texas Straw Poll, both conducted on behalf of the Republican Party. It provides important interactive dialogue among movements within large groups, reflecting trends like organization and motivation.
The Ames, Iowa, straw poll has achieved a reputation as a meaningful straw poll during the presidential campaign because of its large voter turnout and relatively high media recognition, as well as Iowa's being the first state to vote in caucuses before the primaries.

There's the carpenter (not a bright one) who complained he's sawed off the same board twice and it's STILL too short.

Rather like republicans who note there's a deficit after the Bush tax cuts. (Reality check - there has been NO tax increase under Obama.) So we went from a surplus under Clinton, to tax cuts for the rich under Bush.

And the GOP solution to the deficit and debt is (drum roll) -tax cuts for the rich on TOP of tax cuts for the rich.

The trick of growing jobs or the economy with tax cuts has NEVER worked. The fraud the GOP wants to sell is that Reagan did. The fact is Ronnie did it with pure Keyesian economics. He lowered taxes, increased government spending and ran up the national debt.

Update - I am being challenged by the historical revisionists. These are the true numbers.

"The fiscal shift in the Reagan years was staggering. In January 1981, when Reagan declared the federal budget to be "out of control," the deficit had reached almost $74 billion, the federal debt $930 billion. Within two years, the deficit was $208 billion. The debt by 1988 totaled $2.6 trillion. In those eight years, the United States moved from being the world's largest international creditor to the largest debtor nation. "

            Doug and LMC

I will only address the tax cuts. I have already showed on another thread you have read why you are wrong about Reagan. Just like you are wrong about Obama not raising taves. These are facts you can look up

President Obama met with House Republicans at the White House to discuss ways to move forward on negotiations regarding the nation’s debt ceiling and the budget. During the discussion, talk evidently turned to taxes, and when Obama noted that taxes today are lower than they were under President Reagan, the GOP, according to The Hill, “engaged in a lot of ‘eye-rolling’. The Administration is trying to say the Republicans rolled their eyes that they did not believe him. The fact is Obama was right. Here is his quote from the meeting:

“For a family of four, the “average income tax rate under Reagan in 1983 was 11.06 percent. Under Clinton in 1992, it was 9.18 percent. And under Obama in 2010, it was 4.68 percent.” During Reagan’s time, income tax revenue ranged from 7.8 to 9.4 percent of GDP. Last year, it was 6.2 percent and is not projected to climb back to 9 percent until 2016. In fact, in 2009, Americans paid their lowest taxes in 60 years.”

So what was missing from the statement above? The fact is that Obama did not say why the percentage Americans pay is less. He completely left out Bush, who was responsible for giving the tax breaks so Americans could pay less. Plus he left out the fact that taxes are higher under him than Bush. Why did he leave Bush out? Quite simply, he was trying to avoid the fact that Obama has raised the taxes numerous times since he has taken office. Obama is trying to make it look like he is responsible for the low rates. Funny how Obama is trying to take credit for something that his administration is trying to overturn, namely the Bush tax cuts.

The idea that Obama did not raise taxes is just plain wrong. He signed legislation raising taxes on cigarettes and other tobacco products soon after taking office, less than 30 days after actually. Obamacare is riddled with tax increases, has anyone added those up? The Heritage Foundation did. All told Obamacare contains 18 separate tax increases that will cost taxpayers $503 billion between 2010 and 2019. COST TAXPAYERS!! There are more taxes he raised.

Republicans are very fond of saying that the U.S. has “a spending problem, not a revenue problem.” But the truth is that revenue has plunged due to the recession and revenue needs to be raised to eventually bring the budget into balance. In addition, there needs to be significant cuts in the budget along with fiscal responsibility going forward. Democrats say that revenues are down solely because of the Bush tax cuts. While it’s true a lower tax rate does mean lower tax revenue, but most scholars believe the money lost by cuts come back in revenue due to increased spending from Americans. Spending that has ceased due to the current recession.

But there are other reasons for lower revenue. It is due to less tax revenues coming from less paychecks. With the high unemployment rate there are fewer payers into the tax system. But even more is the fact that Americans make less today than in years past. Many companies have reduced pay by cutting salaries. For those really high salaries, they lay off that employee and hire someone for less pay. LOWER PAY = LOWER TAX REVENUES. Proof, check out the employees at the local fast food establishment, the waiters and waitresses in restaurants, they are getting older. They are not the young kids working their way through school. Why? People are taking lower paying jobs, companies firing high paid personal and replacing them with lower paid people. 54000 new jobs were created in May 2011, half of those were hires made by McDonalds. Why? Because people are taking any job to get back to work. People who use to make $25 per hour are now making $8 per hour.

Huntsman?! HA! I just BRIEFLY read his Wikipedia "political views"... That guy's a raging socialist compared to Paul.

He's FOR mandating healthcare; FOR government intervention in just about every industry;... and the list could go on.

I especially loved the CATO institutes rating: he did well on CUTTING taxes, but the guy could do nothing to decrease spending.

So, the above cartoon PERFECTLY encapsulates Huntsman.

And I still stand by my argument: Ron Paul is the only Republican up there demanding a significant cut to spending to match the tax cuts he wants.

Oh, and Paul has a 22 year track record showing that he walks the walk.

Ron Paul has the resume and good ideas about taxes and spending, but he's got almost no chance of winning because he has image problems. People who vote but don't pay much attention to policy see Paul as a feeble old man who always runs for POTUS but never comes close. He's basically the Libertarian version of Ralph Nader. The lack of an alpha male personality will keep Ron Paul from ever getting close to being president.

Goes to show you they write honest nonpartisan articles. Shame that was all you got out of it. I just read the Wikipedia report on Paul. It is quite lenghty, 9/10 of it talks about all his election campaigns, about 1/10 was about what he has done. and of that almost everything he propsed wasm shotdown and reightly so. His claim to fame is that he has attached hi name by co sponsoring bill that have passed. But he had nothing to do with them, he just supported them.

It's called "The Tea Party" because on Dec. 16th, 2007 over 30,000 people individually donated over $7 million to Ron Paul's 2008 campaign for President.

      love the cartoon.

Paul has no real plan for Markets and Business, just cut Goverment and Hands of everything, we are in this shape because of our past history of letting Business run amock. Cut Jobs for Bonus's, ship production overseas, down size the crap out of it, and take the profit for yourself.

I am not sure Rand has a handle on this kind of reality.

Cut the Gov Dept's sure, but what about raising Income for the USA, no factories to speak of, a depressed world market, and we have sent to much across border and overseas, so how? Job market has been splinterd and reduced. No nations except for a few are in position to pay back Debts?

Who is going to pay in, who is capable of that? The problem could be more perminant, than He can handle.  And yes,  cutting Goverment is great but what then, it does not address the real issues.

Kill retirments and tax us to death?  He offers not one reasonable soultion to that?  Not only Seniors are in trouble, but you will be also, by the very Person you try to promote????

Clinton hinting of a banking Change to the World Bank, the loss of Dollar backing, even a self start business can not sustain a start up in those conditions? No real open markets, and half a world at various stages of revolution or mini-wars?

The Internet can not do it?  It produces no products to sell, it offer's services, but who will buy that when it can be done for minimum in house, and with no sales, why contract for more services.

We need real solutions to market and Good's and real income problems, not this kind of mess. This is all side track stuff.

Paul is not offering anything to put us back to work.

"Experienced Republican operative Ed Rollins will play a key role, likely that of campaign manager, when Rep. Michele Bachmann announces her bid for the White House later this month, he told ABC News…

Rollins said he just returned from a two-week vacation and he was “trying to get his hands around” what it will take to put together a campaign organization for the Minnesota congresswoman and Tea Party favorite.

Rollins, an experienced campaign manager, ran Mike Huckabee’s national bid in 2008 and helped Ronald Reagan win in the White House in 1984.

Rollins helped former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee win the 2008 Iowa caucus, the state where pundits think the socially-conservative Bachmann has the best chance of victory. Bachmann is expected to make her candidacy official later this month in Waterloo, Iowa the town where she was born.

This is big news for the once-third-tier candidate – especially and particularly in Iowa, where it will most likely propel her to first-tier status at Ames and in the caucuses. Rollins has the experience, knows the lay of the land, and understands how to win the state of Iowa. Bringing his expertise to Bachmann’s campaign lends her more of an air of legitimacy that she has been lacking.

UPDATE: CBS News also notes that Bachmann has hired “Brett O’Donnell, who advised George W. Bush and John McCain and is considered the best debate coach in politics.” Some big name gets for Bachmann…"

She's in Minnesota, and it is 30 a day from what I gleaned.Plus healthcare, plus food stamps, plus a clothing allowance for the kids...she said she wanted to supplement her income yet stay home....nothing wrong with it, unless it's someone other than her doing it, I guess; from her attitude. Or if a birth-mother needs help, then it's bad too. 2 different standards. Cause SHE'S not a Welfare Queen, but she can pile it on the poor moms of America, can't she?.
And the Bachmann family farm got a $250,000 subsidy. You can look it up....it's legend by now!

So--by her own words....she is a Socialist Gangster!

Thanks Ralph, that one made my day.

I like a ticket to a quality comedy club .At least the punchlines don't stand a chance of further degradation of this country like a GOP win would.

If thats the case you must love the one we have now. To me I do not think this current ticket is a Comedy. I think its a horror show. There was less of a massacre in Friday the 13th and Nightmare on elm street combined than what this administation has done. Please drop the curtain on Obama

I don't expect perfection from anyone and while there have been mistakes the partisan politics that have become the norm in DC are partially responsible for the lack of success Obama has had. I can't help but shake my head in disgust at the way the GOP has stood in the way of everything Obama has attempted and then complain he has accomplished nothing. Everything that has been accomplished is ignored by those who are more interested in their party than in the problems this country faces. I'm pretty sure Obama will be re-elected and the only question is whether the GOP will work to fix this country or continue to fight any attempt at making progress. The deciding factor will be the youth of this country and the GOP is so out of touch with them they may well be on the way to giving up the 2016 race as well. GOP is rapidly becoming Geezers on Politics and I for one love it. The right seems to think that the best thing they can do for their party  isto  make the left look better and better.

Well I'd be interested in a Palin and Bachman ticket and here's why: it would scare the crap out of the rest of the world. If the rest of the world can't respect America, then let's try having them fear America for a while and see how that works. Really, by the time a decision gets to the President, it's a yes/no queston at that point and both sides of the answer has merit, so it's not that big a deal who the president is.
Palin for President! Let the world know, we are to be feared!

      Stump,

I could not disagree more. There was another thread where someone said the same thing and I posted a government report that showed the most ever id held by Dems under Bush

      – The 110th Congress (2007-2008) is the record-holder so far: There were 112 votes on cloture during that two-year period.

      – So far, the 11th Congress (2009-2010) has held 41 cloture votes, 39 of them last year, two more this year.

Just a few different. So your argument that Repubs are blocking everything holds no water. Wish everyone would spaek about facts instead of just giving opinions. Google is very easy to use

I agree. This admin has the best chance of getting America back on track with the rest of the world, despite the sabotage by the religiously impaired.

Australia like many of America's allies like Obama. Many of us who are politically inclined see him as the best President America has had for some time.

I've been there a few times, and have worked in New York and  Vegas for 6 week stints. I also have a few friends living here who are from the States.

I know it is in a mess, and not of Obama's making as any one outside partisan American politics can see.

I don't think that denigrating the President does anything constructive.

As for the birther and muslim thing that is stupid almost to the point of absurdity!

You all need new talking points. No republican in office was on the birther muslim bandwagon. That was Trump and a few outsiders not to mention all the false stories the Dems were telling about that subject. Those are things outsiders do not see. You are spoon fed propoganda. When the Dems have nothing they say racism, birther, muslims. If you truly look at it you will see it is the Dems that always bring those subjest up. Repubs should be smarter and let it alone but they respond to it by denying it and the Dems have been good at spinning the denial into "see they did it".
Not of Obamas making, I cannot respond to this because the response would be so lomg it would crash Hubpages server. The majority of scholored economists believe there was a problem with the economy that started under Clinton, that Bush really did not have much oppertunity to make the  economy revover. 911, dot com bust, corperations coming clean as to phoney bookkeeping and false finalcial statements, more natural disasters than any President before him. All these events seriously strained the bugget creating unexpected spending In addition to both the Repub controlled congress for  4 years and the Dem controled congress for 4 yearsThere was to much unavoidable spending and to much useless spending. Under the O-man, there has bee record uncontrolled spending, several tax increases, and policies that have been complete disasters. O-man may not have started it but he has done more damaged than Clinton and Bush together. Sure hope things are better there. Where i New York do you come for business?

RICK PERRY should run! His state has seen the largest job increase, Texas doesn't have State wage Tax and is doing amazing! he has been governor for a while and has a track record that will make Obumma look stupider than he is.

I do Like Ron Paul, But he gets too crazy and way out there at times.

Paul contributes nothing to Texas, he is a big bag of wind. Perry is interesting, but he has his critics here. While the majority of what he has done has been good, he has made a few major mistakes. But I wil say he is for the people most of the time.

How can you even compare Perry to Obama? Perry has a proven track record, has experience and like you said is for America. Nobody is perfect and I'm sure he had to cave in on certain things to get other things done. For the most part he is a good guy. I think it will take a while to fix this mess! but first we need to get rid of the garbage in there now. As a person he seems like a good guy and Believe he thinks he is doing right, but he is certainly not! this pass weekend was his 73 round of golf since he took office! can you believe that? in 2 1/2 years and the shape this country is in and he played 73 rounds of golf! unemployment is over 10% the number they display is lower than actual figures, After unemployment ends they do not count them anymore! i bet it is more like 14-15% we have a few wars going on, people are in bad shape and he golfs 73 times and countless vacations. SAD

Danny, WHere are you ranting to? Where di I compare Obama and Perry? If I did it would be no comparison. Obama could not even hold Perrys shorts. So dont accuse when nothing is there. And I said in my post for the Most Perry is good. Did you not see it. As for the golf report, how did he fit it in? mean with all the speechs, all the interviews,(and he does both everyday)with all the trips, all the apologizing, all the telling prople he has roots in their country, the date nights. I guess the are right he must be the annointed one LOL
