I'm going to Kefalonia in a couple of weeks and have been told it's really expensive when you get there. Has anyone visited this Isle recently, and if so what were your experiences?(regarding expenditure) Thanks.

I was in Zante in June, and although it wasn't it expensive, it wasn't as cheap as Greece used to be. Also, the pound seems to be falling against the Euro again.

If you pay by car, always pay in euros, as apparently the scam at the moment is that if you ask to pay in sterling they add a couple % bonus for themselves

ThankMHypno, I was in Rhodes in 2008 and noticed a huge difference then compared to when I went to Zante (beautiful place) Of course, the economic situation is much worse now. I was told by a friend that someone she knew went to Kefalonia in May and had paid £5 for a tin of beans. Wow. I will probably be travelling more by bus than taxi, but I'll bear what you said in mind if I do.

I could still get a full cooked breakfast with coffee and toast for 2.80 euros.

The Greeks don't eat beans, so it's much cheaper to stick to local produce. In Zante the local wine, which came in plastic bottle, was around 2 euro a litre and was delicious (and as it contains no preservatives was relatively hangover free!)
