I do the following things to save fuel in my car. Please let me know if any of these thing should not be done.

1)I always put the car in neutral when I am going downhill. I rely on gravity that time. smile
2)I again put the car in neutral if I see a red light at a distance and just rely on the speed and momentum my car already has.
3)My car is a manual transmission. I change gears as follows:
    First gear 0-10 km/hr
    Second gear 10-20km/hr
    Third gear 20-30 km/hr
    Fourth gear 30-40 km/hr
Fifth gear 40 km/hr and beyond.

I do these things. Are there any other things I could do to save fuel and increase my car's mileage?

Well if your car is a late enough model you would gain nothing from selecting neutral, as a closed throttle will not even use as much fuel as idling the motor in neutral due to engine management technology.
Many cars rely on engine vacuum to assist with braking, so idling the motor in neutral should provide enough braking vacuum but only if there are no small leaks in the system.

Being in neutral when the car is in motion is not a safe thing to do for a number of reasons such as where aceleration is needed to avoid a collision instead of braking.

The best way to save fuel is to accelerate lightly up to traffic speed then feather off the accelerator to just maintain speed, anticipate traffic lights, slow down but judge it so you don't come to a full stop.
I wrote a complete hub on the subject a while back now.

i think it is the better way to save the fuel .....You gave me ideas for saving fuel for my car...LoLz:))
    another things you can follow....
    *Check your tire pressure
    *Check your air filter
    *Accelerate with care
Avoid Low Gears, Get Up To Speed Quickly

Keep your car's speed over the 35kph mark whenever possible.
Skip a gear (go from 1st to 3rd or 4th) if you are on a flat road or slope.
Run through all gears quickly and gently if going uphill.
With automatic transmission, get the car rolling, then ease up on the accelerator to let the gearbox shift to the highest possible gear ratio at that speed.

great tips! I'll get my tires checked for the correct pressure levels. thanks. smile

Pump up your tyres and keep at the correct pressure. Under inflated tyres can use up to an extra 7% fuel.smile
Remove anything from your car boot that you do not require. For example an extra 30 kg’s adds another 2% to fuel consumption.smile

Service your car regularly. For example a clogged air filter can add 10% to your fuel consumption and so can binding brakes or a clogged exhaust system. Regular oil changes with the correct oil will also save fuel as clean oil has better lubricating properties causing less friction in your engine and transmission.
*Turning down the Air Conditioning will save fuel as the car does not have to work as hard to maintain a lower temperature.smile

All good ideas. Remember that over-inflated tires lose surface area and will not stop as well in the wet.
