Regardless of which god you worship... do we diminish god by denying ourselves?  This is specifically in reference to the attributes that make us who we are...  The color of our skin, the size of our hands, being gay, straight, etc.

First of all, there is only ONE being that deserves the title of "God" who is the Creator.
And secondly, no we don't nor can we "diminish" Him because He is Holy.  We can diminish our own lives and forfeit our blessings by our choices.
And the color of our skin and size of our hands doesn't really make us "who we are".......it's our personality, our heart, our decisions that make us who we are..

For you Brenda there is one god but for many other peoples there is a different god.  I am interested in every opinion and not just the christian opinion.  physical attributes certain do make us who were or are at least part of that process.  Perhaps we are arguing about who we are on a singular basis and not on a social basis.  My question is about the social basis of who we are or how society may see us based on our physical attributes in conjunction with how we as single individuals accept or reject how we were created.   I like the statement that you made about diminishing our own lives.  Continue that thought please.

How does one diminish what is infinite in nature? Nothing diminishes it only transforms. Denying what and who we are only changes our perception of what and who we are. Our perception then is not diminishing but transforming into a new way of viewing what is.

for better or worse... or both?

Do you mean...is the new way of viewing better or worse?

If so, that would depend. Better or worse is a concept that describes how we perceive 'what is'. If our perceptions are set in a certain pattern then it could be either or. If our perception pattern changes to view much more of the bigger picture, better or worse may very well cease to exist and a new pattern arises to embrace 'what is' without judging or clinging to the not so useful patterns.

exactly... yes... so in a sense as we emerge or grow as a person we change regardless..... and sometimes that may be for the worst but at the same time for the best???? interesting...

Isn't the phrase, "diminish God" an oxymoron?  You might be able to diminish god, but there is no way you can diminish God.

I am wondering if we diminish god by denying his gifts.  In this case if we struggle against who we are, or are ashamed of ourselves, instead of loving who we are as individuals.

Us is not so great to the God of the bible. We think to highly of ourselves and treasure temporary possessions far to intimately. We like to run our own lives our way. So accepting ourselves is not what the God of the bible is concerned with. His concern is more along the lines of Him accepting us as we are and then changing us into what He wants us to be. We submit to Him and he guides our lives.

We are diminished from the start, He enhances our lives and us. We cannot diminish God but we can limit his work in us and our lives.
