I don't know much about web design, but there are important points during ANY project that should be taken into consideration:

      For a website:
      -What is the website about?
-Does the design correspond to the website content?
      -Is the design eye-appealing?
-Does the design make the website harder for the average person to operate?
-Who is going to be visiting the website?

Hope that helps slightly, I really don't know much about web design smile

I have been advised that navigation is critical.  A great site is simple to find the information needed.

Keeping the visitor engaged is also important - the same elements that we utilize in Hubs is needed for web design - great visuals, ease of navigation and content (written and video and visual IF applicable).

      there are quite a few

first point is what is purpose of website..now how does that matter , well it does matter...bcoz design would be accordingly..

second important point is who are viewers..

third important point is how easy navigation is..it should be easy to navigate , at same time should give enough information at one stop..

The visual impact of a website can make or break a design.  The look of a site is - obviously - the very first thing a viewer notices.  So photos, choice of graphics, text style, colour scheme etc., should be given thought.

Contact information should be easy to find and working properly.

The content should be clear, to the point, up-to-date and informative.  It should also be aware of its target audience, and contain inteligently-used keywords which search engines will pick up on.
