What are YOU doing for Christmas this year?

   I've been in the Christmas-y mood since about mid October! My family and I are going to Puerto Rico next week to do some Christmas shopping. On Christmas Day, we normally go to my aunt's house for lunch with all of the other family member, and sometimes we even stay for dinner.
   In Barbados, we normally have an event called Carols by Candlelight which takes place at the Prime Minister's residence in the evening. Everyone gets a candle and when it gets dark, they are lit, and we sing Christmas songs like "We Three Kings" , "Rudolph the Reindeer" "Joy to the World" and so on. It's really fun, and the money from it goes to children charities.
   
   Are you doing anything special for Christmas this year? What are some traditions in your area?

   Spending Xmas eve with my teenagers (and lots of yummy food) and Xmas day with my mum, and the kids. That's it. Will be glad when it's over.

   A family dinner with our daughters and their husbands and my sister and her husband if they can make it this year.
   
   No gifts; we all agreed to stop that stupidity 7 years ago.   What a relief!

   I will be with my two daughters in younger daughter's home.
   
   We probably will only give token presents to each other because: 1. Older daughter is doing a sponsored bicycle ride from London to Edinburgh for Friends of the Earth next year. She needs to raise £1500 so has asked for money instead of presents for her birthday and Christmas. 2. Younger daughter is taking two driving lessons a week and would prefer money to put towards them. 3. I am about to make my most expensive purchase ever bar houses/cars when I buy a harp on Monday, and would prefer money towards the cost.
   
   Since we all want money, it is best to keep what we have and maybe negotiate an adjustment or two rather than buy presents none of us really need.

   I'd try myself, but it'd be expensive to get 160lbs of the ground.

   My yearly traditions:
   
   Morning of Dec. 24th - My three daughters, 8 grandkids, and I visit a local nursing home and pass out candy. Then we all go out to lunch together. After that, we go to my house and put out Christmas dinner for the birds, feral cats, rabbits, possums, raccoons, and foxes. Then everyone goes home. About 5 pm, everyone comes back to my house for heavy hors d'oeuvres and presents. It's a gift-giving orgy! We also read the Christmas story in Luke to the kids, and we go outdoors to search the sky for Santa's sleigh. (Luckily, there's a radio tower near our house with a red light on top!)
   
   The next morning, hubby and I go to each daughter's home to see what Santa brought the kids. We always have breakfast with one of the daughters.

   30 family members and friends at my place for lunch and dinner. Great day of feasting, fun and frivolity. Love Christmas day but not too fond of all the preparation...

    Wow, sounds like you all have a great time at Christmas!
    I remember one morning we fed some stray cats that live in a carpark near us, and we encountered some frogs as well in the small garden.
    Last year, I was able to cut down on my Christmas gift costs by passing out homemade cookies in small packets as gifts, with ribbons and lots of decorations. Plus, it was fun making the cookies and doing all the little decorations. I might do it again this year
