Afghan President Hamid Karzai has pardoned an Afghan woman serving a 12 year prison sentence for sex outside marriage. For being the victim of rape.
Her sentence was forgiven after she agreed to marry her rapist. It seems that she was offered the same deal earlier; the sentence was a result of her refusal to marry the rapist.
Her case was highlighted in a documentary in Europe, but comment has died away and she felt her best bet for "freedom" was marriage.
A semi-human sperm receptacle - is that all that women are in hard core Islamic countries? National law or not, God's will or not, other country or not, can we sit by and do nothing when such things are common?

Greek One had a thread on this...she had a choice if released - marry the rapist and if not her family would probably kill her if she went home....with that in mind, the EU supported her being released....released to what? i don't get what the heck the EU was supporting and putting pressure on the Prez in the first place....maybe the EU will help her flee?....otherwise i don't really understand if the EU understands what they actually supported....better than jail? (i don't honestly think so) the EU needs to get their act together and do better than this.......my 2 cents tonite....
I am generally all for national autonomy - we have no business controlling another countries laws - but maybe a jailbreak by special forces and bring her to America?
There just has to be something we can do.
i agree...since the EU got involved...they should have a plan rather than supporting something that doesn't make much sense to me....i'm looking from the outside in.....doesn't matter what country...at least a country that will give her some freedom for her own life and the life of her child....
i think I read in GO's thread that the EU strategy for the pressure on the Prez is to possibly have many, many women released from jail..women that have been jailed for similar reasons...but released to what?
It is so very sad isnt it? From what I understand, if she claims rape she has to have 3 males in the community as witnesses, which never happens, so she is either killed or imprisoned. Maybe her new "husband" will just happen to have a little accident himself? Wishful thinking...
yes Paula.....an accident seems inevitable.....good for you!...i'm right beside ya on that one...
That would probably be my response. The new hubby would grow a butcher knife from his chest in the wee hours one night. I would probably be stoned to death, but preferable to being raped every night by the one that started the whole thing and with full government and Godly support.
So a woman has to spend time in jail because she was raped?
That's messed up. More than messed up. What the hell?
And to get out of jail had to marry the rapist. It's incredible, and beyond my comprehension.
If I had to marry the guy who raped me, I'd kill myself.
All this BS is taken out of the Bible and Quran. So that's extreme conservatism for ya. These f**ked up Islamic countries need to stop living 2000 years ago and get with the times!

I have been reading other hubbers posts and honestly I am so hopeful! There are so many people on here who truly do care about our Soldiers, there are so many posts of people crying out that WE should STAND TOGETHER in support and love for our Fighting Men and Women! I have faith in Americans. I am...

Most of you know I am very critical of Obama but it looks like he is going to send about 20,000 to 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan which is what needs to be done. At least, that is the rumor on the street. For all of you who support Obama, I'm assuming you will be against this...

If your country was invaded, would fighting to free your people from occupation make you a terrorist?, therefore being feared, hated and eventually punished, or would you become a public hero, reaping the benefits along the way? What are your thoughts?

It is odd to me how these captains of industry will go out of their way to support immigrants and challenge America's policies openly.I would like to get their views on record.Since people like Zuckerberg, and Gates, wnd Cook and Bezos support undocumented immigrants, why doesn't someone in the...

Why does the government get to determine who is allowed to marry?Since all of the reasons why two gay people shouldn't marry are Religion related shouldn't the government not be allowed in that process?
