In a way you can - write your text in Word -then copy and paste into text modules - not quite what you want, but it can save a lot of work.

This is what I do, but my formatting doesn't paste into the text capsule like I typed it into Word.  any advice on that problem??

As others have said, you can copy and paste into the text capsules.

However, if it was possible to simply upload an entire Hub in its entirety, it would be too much of a gift for the spammers.  We'd be even more overrun than we are now!

        That's just lack of imagination.

Such a tool could be restricted to those who have been here x months, have obtained a score of x, have no violations, and so on..

Actually, I was looking at some of the markup on a hub-in-progress and I noticed that when you create a new capsule, it's given a completely unique ID, which may be either used for them to store it in a database OR as a way to prevent people from writing scripts to automate the creation of hubs.

That said, I have figured out a way around it and could thus "upload my hubs" via a script. I could write this script in such a way that users with a author score of x or lower wouldn't be permitted to upload hubs. That said, it would require users to log into HubPages via the script in order to ya' know upload it to their HubPages account and to prove that their score is x.

I doubt anyone would want to use it. I mean, the credentials would be sent to HubPages and nowhere else but I still wouldn't believe users would "take my word for it." I mean, who's to say that the program doesn't just email me all their credentials or hell, if the user has a keystroke recorder on their computer... well, in that case they're already kind of f*cked whether or not they use the script.

But the point of this post is that there is a way to do it.

Sure, but a tool provided by HP wouldn't have the "trust me" issues.

Anyway, I don't need any such thing - I'm happy with the tools they have.  A bit clumsy at times, but they work.

The only thing that annoys me is that I can't do it from my iPad.  I can make edits through the "HTML" button, but that's much more of a pain so I only use it when I really, really need to fix something and cannot wait.

It only annoys me because often the time I am stuck somewhere waiting for something else is time that I could be hubbing.  No biggee :-)

Is there any way you could fake your user agent?

I don't think it's a user-agent thing.  I forget the details now - I looked into this and it's not a deliberate blocking, it's a lacking functionality thingie in the software they use for this.  I can't remember now who makes it, but there was a thread in one of their forums about it.  It's not HP specific, it's that software, so it's not up to HP to fix.

I think I know what you're talking about... maybe like the tinymce stuff. I heard that tinymce is a b*tch for ipad/iphone/iother.

I know a billion people would hate this idea, but I would <3 it. But it would be cool to have something like eBay's TurboLister (I don't know if eBay does this anymore) but it would be for writing hubs while offline. That way users wouldn't have to worry about HubPages being slow to load or losing work.

HubPages ajaxxy stuff is really cool, but it really slows me down when hubbing, a desktop type of thing would allow hubbers to avoid this.

However, there are some big problems in a desktop app:
A lot of people don't really use desktop apps anymore, browsers are the new OS
    Spammers could mass upload hubs
    Dev time

    Reasons it would be awesome:
-It would allow hubbers to backup their hubs to their hard drive
-If the app is made so that it only communicates w hubpage servers during the upload of the hub, it would save on the server load (as in... when i move around capsules now it has to stop and load... before I can do something else.)
    -Save hubbers time

You can backup your hubs now.  File->Save As
