Backlinking to my hubs

   I am wondering, when I create a backlink to my hubs, should I create a backlink to each of the hubs separately(i.e. username.hubpages.com/my-hub) , or would creating a backlink to the main page (username.hubpages.com) work just as well? Thank you

      The answer is, think about what you want the reader to see when they click on the link.
      
      If you send a reader to your profile, are they going to be interested?  If not, there's no point sending them there.

   How to backlink to your hubs depends entirely upon the context in which you are posting the backlink.  If I post a link to my hub in a forum that is specific to that hub, I post a direct link to that hub.  You don't want to lose readers by making them take the extra step of finding the hub from your profile page.  However, I also do some links to my profile page as general promotions for my blog at Hubpages.  Hope this helps.

      When you say your blog at HubPages, do you mean your blog someplace else and your profile is at HubPages?

         I mean my profile at HubPages that lists my articles.  Some would call that a blog.

            We're a bit touchy about that word at HubPages!
            
            We prefer to call our accounts sub-domains, because it's very important not to think of a Hub as a blog post. If you write your Hubs like posts, you probably won't do very well!
            
            Hubs are longer than blog posts, and they're enhanced with videos, images and reference links.  Each Hub has to stand on its own, because navigation between your Hubs isn't obvious - whereas on a blog, it's easy to read three or four posts in a row. 
            
            So we try to avoid referring to our sub-domains as blogs, otherwise newbies get the wrong idea and waste time writing the wrong kind of stuff.

   Well, I would be putting those links not to get the readers, but for SEO purposes, to grow in the google ranks.

   leegis, Google really prefers that online publishers do things to benefit the readers, rather than to game the system.  Even if your ultimate goal is to grow in the ranks, if you think of your readers' point of view and use that as a starting point for what you do, then it is likely that you will grow in Google ranks - assuming, of course, that you have chosen the right keywords to start with.

      That's the right answer.
      
      Fooling Google is not the right path.  Think about what is good for readers and forget the rest.  SEO is part of it, of course: it's good for your readers if a search result leads them to a page that satisfies what they searching for.  There will always be overlap and there will always be gray areas, but your primary concern should be readers, not Google.

   I'm new at this, but so far I use links in two ways.
   
   1. I have a signature with a link for my out-going e-mails. This goes to my profile page.
   
   2. When I write a new hub, I put that link in twitter, Facebook, and Digg. I will be adding other websites to put my links, but that's all I have at this point.
   
   I hope that helps.

   Strictly from a sub-domain/post concept. It is unnatural for a site to only have a linking structure that posts to individual pages and never the top domain(in your case your profile page)
   
   To stay well in the realm of "legitimacy" in your promotions, I would imagine as an online writer you may have profile pages and about pages - those would be good examples of locations to link to your subdomain. As any reader there would likely have an interest in seeing your combined portfolio of work rather than just one post/article/hub/blog/lens/wizzle/xombyte/content/image/video/excerpt
