I'm new to HP and would love some constructive criticism.
I think the hub is very nicely done. It gave me new info on a familiar subject (I had no idea there was an official scale of pepper hotness!), and was comprehensive and clearly written. The only critique I might put out there is that longer hubs like this one usually don't keep me reading to the end. Understand, this is just me personally. And to be honest, I rarely receive comments on my hubs, even though I welcome them. Try not to think of commentary as a scale of your own writing hotness, but rather a tasty side that is probably full of fat and calories! (Can I stretch a mixed metaphor farther?)
I really appreciate your honesty. I did get carried away with the chili hub and plan to keep them shorter in the future! BTW, I like your commentary metaphor. : )
Comments aren't really a measure of success. Many visitors won't comment unless they have a question to ask, or something to add to the content of the Hub.
I just took a look, and I'm glad I did. I think it looks great and it reads very well.
I like the personal touch you have with your hubs, and yet they are very informative and appealing. I've bookmarked this one for Super Bowl Sunday.
Don't worry about comments. They will come as more people discover your very fine recipe hubs. Welcome to HP. Enjoy!
Good Reply Marisa.
I love getting comments on my hubs, and try to respond to each. One of my high traffic hubs has a ton of comments, and those comments have greatly improved the hub, by adding information that I either wasn't aware of, or just over-looked. So this is a great question.
My high traffic hub has had over 8,000 views, over 100 each day. But I think the number of comments is only about 1 percent or less of the amount of page views. So, Marisa is correct.
Those are the kinds of comments I love, but I find they're rare. Lucky you!
Marisa, brimancandy and rebekahELLE, thank you so much for your feedback! I'm really happy to be a part of HP's community. Your words mean a lot to me. : )Thank you for taking the time to respond.
I am so glad I stumbled upon this question because I, too, have a hub that has had no comments. It gets a bit frustrating. Thank you Marisa, brimancandy and rebekahELLE for responding. It helped me too!
Vespawoolf, this is a very well written and informative hub and whilst it's nice to get comments on them. I find with recipe hubs unless it is very unusual, you normally only ever get nice recipe, will give this a try or occasionally opinions on how to improve.
But it is a good hub and keep producing work like this.
Thank you for your feedback, Dipless! Eventually, I may branch out to write hubs about subjects other than food.
I've got 63 hubs with no comments on them. It doesn't (didn't) stop them getting clicks and sales, so I'm not bothered.
Wow, 63 hubs with no comments. That absolutely astounds me -- both that you have 63 hubs and that NONE have comments. I guess I am honored that my first hub had a few comments, although my second hub has none. How do you get your inspiration!
I struggled at first to find things to write about, but now I am brimming over with ideas. Not writing them of course, at least not yet, but inspiration starts with things that interest you. I can't write about things I have no idea about nor interest in. I have tried, but it doesn't work and its a hard slog.
This is very good advice,, IzzyM. I'll try not to worry too much about comments as long as my hubs get traffic. There's so much to learn!
I think inspiration happens all the time, but sometimes it needs to simmer a bit.
I have an "ideas" file that I put stuff in. Most of it is unworkable - just a random thought that can't possibly be expanded into a hub.
But then I read something that is related to one of those thoughts, so I add it to that paragraph or sentence. It's still not enough for a hub but maybe a month later I think of some other thing and I add that and maybe now maybe I do have enough.
I've averaged one page somewhere every single day, seven days a week, twelve months a year since 1997. Many of those pages started as slim thoughts in a file.
Comments? Some pages attract comments, some do not. Shrug.
Peunix, thank you for your thoughts. I suppose it's similar to which products become popular, which books hit the bestseller list. There's not much rhyme or reason to it, really, more timing than anything else. I need to start a file. Right now it's a notebook with incoherent scribbles. I file would be much more organized. : )
I had to go check how many hubs I still have with no comments.. I got 3. I had more but I had deleted the others that were getting very little traffic, if any. Getting a lot of comments is nice, but getting a lot of views is nicer.
Welcome to Hubpages, vespawoolf!
There's definitely a learning curve at hubpages.
5.8% of my 362 hubs have no comments. 18.5% have two or less. 15.7% have 20 or more. Only one has more than 100, though some others are getting close.
Pcunix, your hubs are unique and informative.

I've received numerous purposely mis-spelled comments from visitors. Should I still approve them?I think they might all be from the same source, as each comment has just one or two wrongly transposed letters in a word, and I'm beginning to think I am looking at some coded message. I have...

For the past week and a half or so, one person has asked a lot of questions on my How to Tell if You're Pregnant hub (on my Pregnancy Now hubpages account). I take a lot of time out of my day to answer pregnancy-related questions from symptoms to trying to conceive, and I hide all graphic comments,...

I have had many personal requests that stem from this feature. Sometimes I am not sure what the person is asking because I'm not sure what hub they came from.A question that just says "my reptile," doesn't help me answer the question because all reptiles are different, and I have hubs on...

What is the best way to increase comments and accolades received on a hub? What is the single best way to increase interest in your hubs? And what is the best way to increase the most obvious evidence of interest in your hubs - namely, comments and accolades received? After nearly 2 years on...

I recently read a hub about ouija boards. I would have liked to comment on the hub only it seemed I couldn't because I wasn't a fan of the author. I don't intend to become a fan - not being exceptionally choosy here - just didn't agree with the philosophy behind the hub - but I would...

Does it bother you that people visit your hubs and don't leave comments? What's more important to you, getting tons of traffic with no comments or getting less traffic with comments? For me, I love to get comments because it lets me know if I have touched someone or given someone a new way of doing...
