Do You Read the Food Label on Baby Formula before Buying?

   High arsenic levels found in baby formulas which is not good for the children. Just read that on the internet: http://todayhealth.today.msnbc.msn.com/ … y-formula. What do you think?

      Do you think it will matter if you read the labe. Not likely thay will list that on the ingredients. Greg

   At least, some manufacturers may be honest enough to include the most important constituents on the labels

      Studies like the above are important because they identify the likely sources. It was found in brown rice syrup and water. It's scary if an infants only source of nutrition is arsenic laced formula. Another good reason to breastfeed and purée our own food. My sons never tasted formula or commercial baby food. I hope they identify the formulas. But it also could come from the water it's mixed with.

   I read the labels on EVERYTHING before I buy, but gregas makes a very good point, the label doesn't always tell the whole story.

   We never used commercial baby food. It was high in
   salt and sugar and who knows what else in those days. We used a baby's food grinder, fresh fruits and vegetables.

      I am not a big fan of processed foods and buy as little as I can get away with. My grandson was never given commercial baby formula or processed baby foods either.

         Ditto to that. No commercial baby food or formula here either. To me feeding an infant a pureed banana from a jar makes no sense.
         
         I read all labels on food products and I actually buy mostly food that is fresh raw and I do the washing, slicing, cooking and mixing it, takes time but I know what I am eating. No sugar, salt, preservatives, colorants added.

   It says that the arsenic is being traced back to pesticide residue used in areas of the southern US where 1.6% of the world's rice is grown. I have trouble with that statement though, because the original findings are with organic brown rice syrup. Generally pesticides aren't used with organic farming, although there can be runoff from surrounding farms, or it comes from the soil which may have levels of arsenic from previous inorganic farming methods.
   I wonder.

      It seems that the rice wiold be tested before it was ever processed, especially for baby food, no matter what. It really makes a person wonder about any food we eat anymore and wonder if that just might be a reason why there are so many health issues in the country today. Greg
