Import or Upload Pictures?

   I notice on Wikimedia Commons there is an option to "Download" or "Use this file on the Web".  Is it advisable to download the file to our computer and then upload it to HubPages and just reference it with the link provided?  Or do we actually hotlink to Wikimedia Commons?  Or, do we use the HTML code provided?  (This goes for Flickr too.)
   
   The other thing is, I would like to credit the artist appropriately but it seems the link provided on Wikimedia simply links back to Wikimedia and not to any page belonging to the original author of the image.  What's up with that?
   
   Forgive my ignorance, but I'd love it if someone could settle this photo-using thing for me once and for all.  I have read the excellent "How to Legally Use Others' Images on HubPages" article but so many questions remain.

      What I tend to do on Wikimedia Commons is right click the image, then click 'save image as' and that will save it into your My Pictures file. Then, when writing a hub, all you have to do is upload the picture, and then just credit 'Wikimedia Commons' where it says source.
      
      As for crediting the artist, when you click an image on Wikimedia Commons, scroll down to where it says summary, then look for the author; that'll be your artist. Hope that helps.

      HubPages allows you to upload from your computer or enter the URL, and either is fine.  You can't use the HTML code in the photo capsule.
      
      
      
      Simple, because many photographers won't have the actual photo posted on the internet anywhere else.  It's up to you to read the page and manually create whatever link or credit is requested.

   I always import pictures from Wikimedia commons, one place where you do not have problems importing images. I usually mention the artist name and add the URL.
