How fun would that be.  Set up like twitter, only allow 140 characters and such.  Is this realistic? Could we behave ourselves?

Isn't that a helpful response from WryLilt I see below me?
      WTF happened to friendly courtesy?
At least he/she/unknown didn't look at your avatar and say "Dumb idea. Blow it out your bum."
      Neither am I, lol.
But I gotta say tweeting bores the crap outta me.
      Sorry JB.

But why? This is not a social networking site.

Unfortunately, many Hubbers who've joined in the last year or so think it is.

This used to be first and foremost a place for writers to write, and secondly a place for those writers to support and motivate each other.  I liked that site - I wonder what happened to it?

I'm not sure there's any point in fighting the change, because as old members leave and new members take over, their view will prevail.

No. The idea has been raised and rejected multiple times.

This is not a rude response, as others have suggested - it's just fact.  The fact is, the idea has been suggested many times in these forums, and it's never been successful.

We even had a HubPages chatroom set up (outside HubPages) but it didn't last - no one used it.

Personally I think the forum is enough of a distraction without adding more.

Twitter is for tweeting, Hubpages is for Hubbing and ne'er the twain should meet.

I meant to refer to the restricted message amount, some of the forum responses are very lengthy. This maybe helpful to those experiencing technical issues.

Heya JB, I missed that. Sorry. I think relating it to responses would be a fantastic idea!! Force folks to focus their point - as you say, much of what you read (or don't bother to..) is so lengthy it's like stream of concsiousness.

Of course, some things take longer to say than others. But for the rest, maybe HP could set up a kind of Rapid Response subsection, where strict word limits apply.

BTW, this response is well over 450 characters - I'd be amongst those severely challenged by your suggestion. But now I get it, I like it!

Oh thanks writer on line. It is on another place I work on and it really does help out.  There are times where the 'alert' for new whatever does not get to my inbox or perhaps a live talk with another hubber would be more beneficial (I thought)
ON the other hand, there is a lot of abuse, or foul response in the forums, and if you surf hubs/hubbers you may also discover there are about maybe 15% of people here that actually utilize the platform as the creators intended.
However, this could really deter people from publishing, though it would be nice to have some kind of conversation with those hub friends that are far away that  stimulated more of a conversation than a reply, send, wait, read, misinterpretation, get pissed, marinate in their anger than write a lengthily recoil,, and so on.

They have integrated log in with Facebook and you can share hubs, we don't need tweeting as well...what is worth reading in 140 characters

tweeting was an example, read above, just to limit a response to X amount of words per reply....
For those who do not want to use facebook, or want to keep their communication just to the HP users it would be something like that.
      Just An Idea.....

You do know that you can post status reports in your feed? You can have a conversation there.

Has anyone really looked at the forum topics?! many abuse/misuse the forum for personal use, or to 'update' their status, the status on your personal page is a form of social network, to link to you other social networks, is a form of 'networking'
    "but why"
to answer that...it was a mere idea to enable users to communicate on a quicker reply, if you did use your status for communication, it would require the followers to set up their email to receive notification of such, even then it can take a couple of days.
Again just a thought.  I see other sites use this and it helps the community out. But with the way there is so much abuse on forums, hubs, etc and the turn around rate to address such, I regress my idea.

Yeah, give it up JB. You're amongst 'those who know it all' already. Just this small interchange has re-reminded me why I rarely visit the forums. People too rude to offer constructive comment, just smack down someone else.. whyTF bother?

Keep smiling, life's too short  not to.
