Like many others here, I've tried to add a relevant news capsule to some of my hubs in order to have self-updating and relevant content.
Unfortunately, it hasn't been working so well.
Two issues have come up that I've noticed:
1. Broken news links
I understand this isn't a hubpages problem, but it is certainly a hub quality problem. Two out of three of the news links are simply broken on one of my hubs. And the third is...
2. Irrelevant news
Naturally this isn't necessarily a problem on hubpages's side, but I might suggest a tweak here. Rather than scanning the entire contents of the news articles, it might be more accurate to only scan the title and tags, or just the title to determine if the news is relevant.
In any case, I'm much less inclined to use the news feeds.
Anyone else have thoughts on this?
Are you saying that the broken links are in the news article?
I found that you can eliminate irrelevant news by putting a restrict symbol and keyword with the keywords you want.
For example if you had a site on Michael Phelps but did not want news on the Olympics unless he was in the item you would put key words like this; +"Michael Phelps" -olympics
Hope this works for you too. I am hoping having the news feed generates "activity" points from the google bots every time something changes in the news.
yes i have seen such problems ,
so , i didnt use that ,
they did not contain any interesting news ,
they only make hubs lengthy & use extra spaces.
I haven't had too many problems with relevancy. I just try to make the topic broad when searching in keyword for the News capsule. I don't use it much, but use it more now since it feeds from several sources. I've never been able to find an exact match in the news capsule topics to my hub, so a broad topic typically works. But, I do like the idea of the capsule searching via tags.
There are a few undocumented features in the news capsule that might help you get better results.
- Negation to eliminate articles with a word:
- Quotes for exact match:
- Site to get articles from a particular source:

I've started writing more articles here after not being so active for a year or so. One of the reasons I was discouraged from putting time into HubPages was the removal of Amazon capsules. This had a hugely detrimental effect on my earnings, which plummeted around 80% since they were systematically...

My most recently snipped hub is about a specific product that is not readily available in stores. It used to have an amazon capsule, but that was deleted courtesy of HubPro a while back. Made no sense to me at the time because I've had multiple sales through amazon for that product, but I didn't...

Well, folks. For those who missed it, here it is:"Yes. We ran several tests and Hubs that used Amazon were the most likely to see a decrease in traffic, followed by the news capsule." --Paul Edmondsonhttp://hubpages.com/forum/topic/70082#post1526822..I, for one, will be busy...

It is often said that we need to include news capsules to keep our content fresh. But I see various Hubbers who are doing well, like ryankett, who don't include it. They simply do their keyword research, post content and let it be.I understand the value of the RSS capsule with your latest hubs...

Authoring Hubs is about sharing and spreading ideas. Most of what we do is word-based, and a capsule to show off related Zazzle stuff would be an eye-catching way to allow readers interested in those ideas to buy products which celebrate them, such as relevant designs, graphics, statements,...

http://hubpages.com/holidays/gifts-for- … doctor-whoI've rewritten this article three times, though I understand why it stopped being featured and it wasn't because it was badly written, but because they changed the rules from the first time I posted it and I didn't notice. This was...
