Smoking and Cancer, COPD and CHF

   If you smoke and knew that you were going to die from one lung cancer, COPD or CHF would you quit smoking? I was told in October I had COPD and CHF and that I would die if I did not stop smoking. I have not smoked since. I have a uncle who has COPD and is still smoking and getting worse daily. What would you do?

      When it is sure that I am going to die, why should I leave that enjoyment? I can die quickly..

   Stop Smoking and Use the Savings Positively.... Like to buy Tickets to Super Bowl for my partner!

   If I found I was prone or suffering from any of those diseases, stopping would be my chosen solution.

      I did not begin the filthy habit in the first place.  Smokers (nicotineacs) won't face the fact they are drug addicts, just as if they were smoking opium!  Except tobacco is worse for them and for the rest of us.

         There really is a whole lot of political correctness spoken over these addictions.
         
         If we allow the PC Gestapo to have their way, they would ban coffee also, that is highly addictive, and science oscillates between it being good for people, and bad for people.
         
         Tea contains more caffeine than coffee, so we should look at that also.
         
         Alcohol causes more deaths than car crashes do, but to be safe. maybe we should ban both activities.... where do we stop?
         
         Likewise smoking is good for Parkinsons sufferers as it releases dopamine that the disease restricts.
         
         Cannabis cures cancer in oil form, but is forbidden, it also eases pain and MS symptoms, but the sick cannot get to use it.... why is banning things such a desirable thing.
         
         Any habit that creates a problem health-wise needs to be moderated and if need be stopped.
         
         The fact that you view smoking as a 'filthy habit' does not actually count in the scheme of things, there are many things I find offensive, but have to endure or avoid contact with.
         
         BTW, smokers contribute enormous tax dividends to the hospital funds, and as if you do get a disease from smoking, the long term prognosis for life is shortened, those smokers actually cost less to service than those who stay healthy but need much more medical treatment as they hang onto life.
         
         How we live should be less of a concern than what we have elected to do once we die.

   I'd like to think, if I knew for a fact, I'd die from lung cancer, I'd quit. I believe I can quit again and I hope to very soon. It bothers the heck out of me to know my chances are so high and I still smoke.
   
   My grandmother died from lung cancer and smoked til the bitter end as I wrote about in my hub. The addiction is ridiculous! Sometimes I believe I'd make another excuse along the lines of, "what's the point in quitting now?" Bottom line, I believe I'm going to be quit by summer, so hopefully I won't have to face that dilemma.
   
   Congratulations of your quitting.
   
   Don't let any situation allow you even one cigarette. I was told 2 years ago I was going to die in 3 weeks from an ovarian tumor and ended a 5 year smoke-free bit. Now, I'm struggling with these daggon things again.

   In process. Sometimes we KNOW the dangers and have wintessed them, but somehow we only think of today and that darn habit takes away the soul from consciousness. Wishing all luck including me who are trying to quit.

   Which I could quit smoking for good. I do it for a while then pressure comes from work or something else and having a smoke seems like the thing to do at the time. Then I always regret it
