Should a child/teen respect their parent/s if that parent does not respect them? This does not include the normal respect your elders respect, this is the above that.

Everybody can pretend to respect somebody. It is called social manner. You can force  your children to respect you, but it is not real. Respect comes from the honest feeling. The wonderful family should be respecting each other without any reason or any force. Show your children what is right and wrong for everyday living and when the child agrees with what you do, respect comes naturally.

I would think treating one's own child as such, would earn the stamp of 'fail' as a parent hmm parents should be the child's greatest supporter and cheering team. Conflicts should be handled with calm and cool, as much as possible. Parenting isn't about rigid control over the life of their child. Unrealistic expectations on others usually grows into that disrespect. jmo

Not sure exactly what you mean by above elder but if a child doesn't think the parent respects them because, say, the parent has good reason and checks their room for something and the child sees this as dis-respect- well, the child should still respect the parent in a case like that. On the other hand the parent should respect the child like they would any other person and if they don't then it's no surprise if the child doesn't have any respect for the parent.

Respect of child toward a parent is a must. The parent can respect the child but that respect is earned. The respect a child pays to the parent is also earned through experience of life.
