My cat likes to lick walls

   This is very odd, but she loves wall licking.  I used to have a cat that licked the wallpapaer in one particular room, but Luna isn't discriminating, they're all good to her.  Anyone else have a cat with this strange behavior?

      When my dog has an upset stomach, she licks the floor. I think it is because instinctively she is trying to eat grass. If she starts licking the floor, it is time to go outside

   Haunty might be onto something though. Perhaps there's something in the wall, and it might not be a fish. Maybe it's a rat or mouse.
   
   Your cat isn't by any chance that black cat from that paint ad that rubs up against walls or anything, is he/she?

   Our cats and dogs used to do that too.  Not sure why, but I noticed our Siberian huskey used to do that after giving her self a cat bath, so maybe she was trying to get the hairs out of her tongue lol.  She grew up around cats and acted like them in many ways.  Our cats used to sleep on top of my dad's work truck, and one day I came home from school and she was up there with them.

      hahaha that is so funny! I've never seen a dog sleeping on top of a truck/car like a cat. Would make for a great pic!

      That's hilarious. The truck must've been pretty scratched, huh?  For some bizarre reason, my SON (he's human) enjoys hanging out on top of our van.  A little odd.

   I have had cats that liked walls all so now I have one who likes to try and get the other cat in the mirror, glass oven door any thing shine and she will just start to scratch and scratch, drives me crazy

   Scooter my male cat grooms me, neck,face and hair. I don't know if it is because I had him since he was about 4 weeks,(foster mom)and he sees me as another cat.
   
   My year old chihuahua,who is a character anyway,licks all over the bed, mattress,sheets,bedspread and any other bedding. Before you ask - Yes, I do wash my bedding regularly. He is a big time licker anyway, so maybe it isn't so unusual.

    Cats like salt
    Moisture evaporates ,fine particles stick to the walls.
    Thats my opinion.
    
    Or they are just nutty cats who like to lick

       I agree with this, Eaglekiwi.  This particular wall-licking cat is a huge Morton's fan.  I've had the same theory.  Weird, huh?

          Yea but then again not so wierd , I remember reading years ago now , that todays commerical pet-food does not provide quite the amount or right kind of salt etc.
          Im inclined to think that its a very normal thing for animals to do ,wild deer do it as well.
          Salt given to aviary birds will possibly die from salt, yet wild birds are ok.

             Weird about salt and aviary birds.  Interesting little fact you have there, Eaglekiwi!  Thanks for sharing.  It's true about commercial cat food not being nutritiously balanced.  They used to think dry food was better than wet, now they're seeing all kinds of ramifications from the dry.  My cat who's in kidney failure is one example. 
             
             BTW, where in New Zealand are you?  We came VERY close to moving to Wellington during the Bush administration.  Honestly, having to lock up our pets for 6 months was what stoppped us.  NZ will always have a special place in my heart- favorite, favorite place.  I do love Oregon, though.  Actually, they have a similar feel.
