For about 3/4 hours now my Adsense pageviews haven't increased by any more than I would expect to see from my own sites.
I've checked a couple of hubs and every time I look it's HP's affiliate that is showing.
I know I am getting normal amount of views going by Analytics Real Time.
Anyone else got this issue?
I've been thinking the same thing, but can't be sure it is real. I might add that analytics is accumulating views at normal rate as well as seeing them in the real time view.
Mine has gone back to normal now, after posting this. But my pageviews look like they are going to end the day way lower than normal.
I think maybe we all experienced this, as obviously all my niche subdomains use the same Adsense account and they all showed the same thing.
An accident at HP? Or 'take-back' time to make up for an earlier error that gave us too many views? I did have a brief surge in traffic on Sunday that didn't last. Maybe it wasn't a surge at all but an HP error where our affiliate code stayed on page for longer than it should have?
At the end of the day mine looked pretty normal. They vary day to day, of course, but overall were acceptable.
We'll never know what happened, if anything, but if we wait a sock puppet will surely come by screaming that HP is cheating us all blind; that no money can ever be earned on HP.
Just popping in to say thanks for this informative discussion. I didn't know how HP made adsense "split" the earnings, so this comment was interesting.
Depending on how long their timeline is for reaching the desired split, (e.g. if they literally do HP gets 4, then you get 6, HP gets 4, then you get 6; or if they just hit a certain average over 24 hours, or even a week) you could see dips and bumps.
It is not time dependent, but rather based on a random number generator. You can and will see variations from an exact 60/40 split, but over a thousand views it won't be much on a percentage basis.
Eh? It is not time dependent? I thought it was?
Izzy, I was like you are - thinking that the 60-40 split referred to actual minutes that the ads were shown. I had even told other Hubbers that that was the case. But in one forum conversation, Jason explained that "time" really means "turn"; so, when they say our ads will be shown 60% of the time(s) they mean 60% of the occurrences.
I'll try to find that forum, but it has been many, many months ago now. If I do find it, I'll post a link.
I must have missed that post, and would be interested to see it. Else perhaps Jason will come along and re-post it.
I'm so glad I said above "I have no idea, even after all this time, exactly how they do the time split."
Anyway, 'random number generator' or 'turn', something went wrong with it the other day.
After I posted the above, I tried to find the conversation with Jason. So far, no luck.
Grrrrrr. It was so much easier with the old profile! [I'm really feeling like throwing a hissy-fit about now.]
While searching, though, I came across many, many forum threads that showed other Hubbers had the same idea - that is, that time referred to actual minutes, not instances. I would guess that Jason did know what he was talking about, but I know that the staff are not really infallible either. So, I'll keep looking, but can't spend a great deal of time on it in the foreseeable future.
But.... About randomness.... True randomness does not always appear to be random. Just as with a lucky streak in cards or dice, anything that revolves around randomness will show some streaks that give all the appearance of being controlled.
I read once that some feature of randomness was built into one Apple product (didn't notice what feature or which product). But people complained when they saw something that did not look random to them. And so Apple redesigned it to give it more of an appearance of randomness, but it was actually mathematically less random. Weird!
Great discussion!
I wanted to clear up any confusion there might be about the impressions sharing program. Aficionada: what you remember Jason saying is correct: the 60/40 split refers to instance (each page view), not actual time.
For example, if you have 1000 pageviews in a day, roughly 600 of those pageviews will be counted as your share of impressions, and 400 of those pageviews will be counted as HubPages' share of impressions.
I'm not sure which post by Jason you're referring to, but Paul Deeds had a great explanation for how you can (if interested) test this.
The split is a time split. So in all fairness, you could suddenly get 100 hits from somewhere, but if it was during HP's share of the time, you get nothing.
And vice-versa of course.
That said, you 'see' all the views your hubs get, both in Analytics and Hub Stats. The difference will come in in Adsense pageviews.
And again in HubAds pageviews.
They should work out at roughly a 60/40 split, but not always because it is a time split, not a view split.
I have no idea, even after all this time, exactly how they do the time split.
I assume we get a few minutes, then they get a few minutes, as I never see anything unusually high or low in the Adsense reports hourly.
Except for last night when the Adsense report remained more or less static for a few hours.
My own sites don't get a lot of traffic:(
I only brought it to the forums to make Hubstaff aware that a problem existed, but it did right itself just after I posted.
And yes, I was down overall yesterday, so there was a problem.
But it has resolved now. I don't earn enough to say I've lost anything much through it.
Check this out! My views have plummeted in the last couple of weeks til now I struggle to get 37.

Surely the thought of such murky transparency and seemingly unidentifiable traffic manipulation is sufficiently serious enough, for more than just 'sock puppets' to be concerned!
Don't know why I thought it was just whatever I earned got split 60/40 guess we have to figure out the best TIME to promote now?

Anybody please tell me what is the difference between page views and page impressions, because I dont get the same number of page views on my hubpages statistic page and page impressions on my google adsense report.I hope to get a reply soon.Thanksfavorites

Even taking into account Hubpages' share, with the amount of ads, shouldn't it be a multiple of views? I reckon, there should be about 6 impressions per article, but instead, there's only about .5 on average.

Hello again! So looking at my Adsense Overview, I see a particular number of pageviews that doesn't seem to correspond to the page visits in Hubpages I have for the corresponding day. I currently only have Hubpages as my active Adsense account. An example is (not my real numbers)total impressions...

The page views on Analytics are 205% of what my HP views show for the past 24 hours! Does HP not consider views going to other pages? I mean when people go to another hub from a previous hub? Because, nothing else makes sense

What is Google Adsense Page impression and what is Google Analytics pageviews. And why the number of page impression in AdSense (not clicks) is so different then the number of pageviews in Analitycs

OK. Here is the deal... On average, my hub stats say I get about 150 visits a day and Adsense shows about 5 page impressions. For a week, my Adsense account showed "No Data Available" and my Google Ads did not show up in my hubs. But I think that this was due...
