The WTI thread is often a good place to start with ideas for new Hubs. However, just as often, I find the topics either something about which I know little to nothing, or in which I have no particular interest.
That said, I am usually pretty good at coming up with ideas of my own. Of late, however, I've been very frustrated in thinking I've come up with a "great" new topic idea, only to find that numerous other Hubbers have beaten me to it months or years ago.
So--what to do? Write the article anyway, or give it up as already having too much competition? Sometimes it seems there are no new topics to be had; only re-runs.
I'm no authority but I say write it anyway. It never hurts to present your own perspective. For inspiration, try taking your camera everywhere you go and take pictures of anything and everything. When I'm at a loss, I look at some pictures and something always jumps out at me.
Good idea, lrc7815; I usually do have my camera along...I just never seemed to put pictures together with article inspiration. Usually, I'm doing it the other way around: taking pictures to go with an article already written or in progress. Thanks for that suggestion.
I'll just add that it doesn't really matter what the topic is or how saturated it is. What matters is how you present it. Take for instance the Cinderella story... I'll bet there are hundreds of versions of this story and they all contain the same relative storyline. Harry Potter and Star Wars have the exact same storyline if you are willing to open your mind to it... wrote about this in my romantic screenplay hub and showed how the stories are the same. Your own words, your perspective, directed at an audience you most relate to and even another acai berry story can look good.
Thanks very much, 'livewithrichard,' That's a fascinating angle, indeed--I'll have to look up that Hub of yours..I never even gave that a thought. You've piqued my curiosity. ;-)
I guess that's where I was stuck--as my husband, too, keeps saying, "There are no new plot ideas--it's all been done before." (But, sometimes, they do come out with something new...like the recent TV shows "Alcatraz," and "Flash Forward." Both were unique plot twists, very interesting, had not been done before. We enjoyed them, so what happened? They got cancelled!!! WTH?? People would rather watch umpteen versions of CSI or "Cops" instead of something fresh and unique?? BAH!
But then, I guess that bodes well for writing on stuff that's already been done....
Thanks for your remarks.
I'll go along with Irc7815 and say, go for it. First of all, there may be articles written, but how you write the article (e.g. with subheadings, polls, photos, maps, tables, and plenty of up-to-date info, has the potential to be picked up by Google over older versions of the same topic. What you have to do is make sure that what you write is relevant and that if one were seeking your Hub, would they find the information presented in a way that they can take something away from the article? If your answer is "yes" then by all means go ahead and write it.
If however, it is a "rehash" and you have nothing new to add, then wing it and submit it, knowing that there's a chance it might get monitored as "duplicate" or find another fun topic to write about.--Deb
Hi, Deb,
Thanks for adding your perspective ... it's always a 'two heads are better than one" kind of thing, eh? I'll be sure to take your points into consideration when writing my new/old next topic.
I have had many websites in the relationship niche, and let me tell you that it seems like there are only many ways to write 'How to get your ex back', but everyday I see new articles coming out about that subject, and if I try, I can always find a new angle to write about. That's what makes it interesting, a new angle.
In fact, just the other day there was a hub of the day on a relationship topic that I have wrote about at least 100 times. So, you just never know!
Plus the search engines love new and relevant content. So you just don't know whether they will pick yuo up or not.
Yikes, my spelling is pretty bad...I guess that could make your hub unique as well!
Hello, Relationshipc
Thanks for adding your feedback on the matter. I appreciate your taking the time to point out those ideas.
I usually pay attention to whatever is 'trending' in the news and sometimes, can get inspired in a totally different direction something I learned or read are also good. Usually just look at the 5 W's and how can help stir the mind for ideas.

I have been diligently writing away on niche stuff and today realized that the market for much of what I write is way to small. I need to diversify in a big way. Please give me some ideas on how to find topics that people want to read about.

Hey everyone,This might seem like a silly question, the answer to which is probably glaringly obvious to my more experienced fellow hubbers, but I'm truly at a loss here. I'd like to know how you come up with original hubs to write after doing research on a proposed topic. Nearly every...

And it's right under our very noses. What is it? Stuff that you're interested in!Your hobbies, your work, your experiences... do a bit of keyword research to see how many other people are interested in it and what search terms they're using to find it, then write about it (then rewrite, spell...
