As a new hubber, my hubs haven't received much attention.
A few compliments have been handed to me, which I was graciously thankful for. However, the second I posted a more controversial Forum I almost instantly felt attacked.
Granted, my forum was in hopes to persuade conversation other than religion and politics, that is all it attracted. Yes, I understand they're important to people, and yes I'm well aware we all have different beliefs and you can't change that, and yes I wish we could agree to disagree, and agree to compromise, and yes I know it's unrealistic to hope for conversations to change. While acknowledging all of this I still received loads of scrutiny.
Now, as addicting as Hubpages is, the bickering and "Your wrong" of others almost makes me not want to post anything.
And it's not even constructive criticism.
...And I'm not being overly sensitive, I suppose I just don't understand the point of responding to someones forum or question or hub with the intentions of being rude.
Now tell me, aren't we all here for nearly the same reason? To write? To share our knowledge with each other, and to help each other progress as writers?
Call me crazy but name calling and degrading each other doesn't seem quite just.
Can we clear up some hate?
Be supportive of your fellow writers.
Peace to all of you.
Every forum has its own culture. This one is quite contentious. Fortunately you can choose to not come here at all, or go only directly to the hubber help sub-forum.
IMHO there is some obligation to help people become better hubbers. But when it comes to any other subject, there is no such expectation. The forums are what they are.
I don't think I need to go to a help forum. It's only a hope to persuade (at least hopefully) a small percentage of hubbers to support each other rather scrutinize each other.
Even with constructive criticism it never works. All constructive criticism does is makes things worse, it will never help out in any way ever. I dont think I would ever make a forum trying to keep religion out or politics because you should know thats exactly what it will attract. And since I was raised southern baptist I have a strong view of religion. I won't degrade others because they dont believe the same because that would put me in just as much wrong. Your hubs wont receive much attention until they age some so dont think it's just from that forum. If you haven't been here 6 months its going to be hard to get views and stuff like that. Just stay positive and try to stay away from all the chaos of arguments lol I know sometimes it's hard but you can't prove you're any more right than anyone else even when you think you're 100% right. Being a christian I won't degrade or judge anyone, I love everyone the same, even if I know I'm right, I won't put you down for your beliefs. Only give you love and support, which helps others find their way a lot faster. If I threw it down someones throat like some do on here it wont change anything and they'll just hate Christians even more. You know I'm here anytime you need some help getting some traffic to your hubs and I wish you the best
I wasn't necisarrily trying to keep either subjects out, people seemed to have thought I wanted them banned, which is ridiculous. And I would never ever want to offend someone for their beliefs, regardless of how different they are than mine.
BUT thank you haha

Well, your heart is in the right place wanting to make peace. When I was newbie 4 years ago, I found out right quick not to take anything personal, which I did. I was told I was disgusting, ridiculed for my belief system and made fun of. Then I got to thinking, what the heck? These are all a bunch of a crazy people so ......I'm stil here. When the same people would go on & on spitting rudeness I started sitting back watching it like a Ping Pong tournament.
Then realized, "Hey, some of these guys (or gals) are [dare I say] ignorant cusses!!!" So we deal with an arrogant/ignorant cuss every day of our lives out here in the brick and mortar world so why not consider the Hub community like that. Yep, it's frustrating that the ball game continues, but at least we have a choice to join or not to join, to speak or not to speak. I always say, laughter is the best medicine and when one of those hate bashing, critical spanking threads is born, I like to add some humor. Lightens things up a bit.
I'm glad you're here and hope you stay around!
oh look! someone finally relatively understood what I was saying and didn't misconstrue everything! haha, thank you for your kind response and feedback.
But really it's not a personal problem, I suppose I'm always curious why others want to bring each other down. And again thank you, good advice.

I expect support from my friends and family, not random strangers on the internet. IMHO the job of hubbers is to help each other make goods hubs. Not to affirm each other as human beings.
So if I start a thread on a controversial topic, I expect spirited conversation and that is about it. If people here do not support what I think or do, i expect them to feel free to say so--as forcefully as they like, this side of personal insults.
There are people on here who will continue to argue on a topic long after it has been useful basically because they have to get the last word in or think they know better than others. Best to try and ignore those topics, although it isn't always easy to do that.
how can i work on it please inform me about that as soon as u do
Madi,
It's not hate. """"""the second I posted a more controversial Forum I almost instantly felt attacked."""""""" What you did is an attempt at censorship. """""To all constantly posting about Christianity and politics. CUT IT OUT!!!"""""""
This hubpages community has not been very political until lately. Understandably. This site is made up of lots of pagans and Christians, and the garden variety home recipe; how too's.
At times one may come across the drunken sailor type, but sometimes passion for issues peaks. Funny, a self proclaimed socialistic atheist usually will not get away with a terse disposition here.
You say Christians are visceral, say one thing against pagans on this site, and the venom flows. I think it's fun to discus topics with people from around the world. If you land in hot water here, it's ok. We are all in the same pot.
Not everyone is here to share knowledge and engage in intelligent and constructive discourse, as nice as that would be. Many of the people on this site don't even write at a high school level and seem to be more concerned about venting their frustrations, and I often wonder whether or not some of them have jobs or have sought professional help. I don't know why you're surprised that your post garnered so much attention and criticism, especially in a sociopolitical environment as sharply polarised as that of the U.S. today. If anything, you should use that as a tactic to gain followers and readership on your actual Hubs instead. I know that if I went out of my way to piss people off on a regular basis I'd be making money, haha. It sure worked when I called The Hunger Games a simplistic, piece of crap ripoff and ranted about mindless consumerism. Besides, it's the Internet, the greatest conduit for magnifying assholery ever conceived by man. The sooner you desensitise yourself to the venom, the better. In the end it's meaningless.
If I may, I'll also call you madi~
I used to come to the forums more often, but recently I must honor Socrates' quotation:
“I know that I am intelligent, because I know that I know nothing.”
And, knowing this, I try to stay away from them.
Hopefully folks will see the merit of this quote!
Hello, I did not post to your forum but when I saw this I thought I would tell you that I write alot about my beliefs, and my life on my hub. I was kinda worried when I saw your forum, like I might be writing something wrong, afterall I am pretty new here in hubpages. I had gotten so many nice comments and then saw your post of "Cut it out". Now you are saying people are coming back and attacking regarding it, maybe next time try just starting a forum on something else. I would like to see discussion on how can we end homelessness, or what are things happening in people's communities to better it? (or what ever your passion is, I would love to hear about it and have conversation around it) Anyway, good luck with your writing, I will follow you and learn more about your writing!

Today I posted a comment on a hub that confused me. I'm curious if I'm in the wrong here. I was confused by a section of the hub and I said:Why does it say "We sent New York journalist Sam Merrill (whose previous "Playboy Interviews" have included those with Ed Asner, Roy...

Is there a reason why hubbers do not accept constructive criticism and/or corrections? Am I the only grown-up on this site who takes corrections as a means of making my hubs better and myself informed? I, not wanting to let a hubber I started to follow look like a fool, decided to correct this...

How do you respond to criticism? How to you respond when your hubs are criticised? Does it make you feel angry, or dejected? Or does it encourage you to write better hubs? Maybe both?
