There has been a rumor for quite some time that there will be a new version of "The Wizard OF Oz" coming to theaters pretty soon. I have heard everything from trying to stay close to the original version, to going off in a different direction all together. I have also seen teaser ads on facebook for a "Great And Powerful Wizard OF Oz." movie. And, a possible film based on "Wicked"
In my opinion, I will hope for a very well done special effects version of the original Oz. From what they have done with films like Avatar, they could really turn the Wizard of Oz into something spectacular. No cheap sets. As long as they don't try to do it as a musical, and ruin it with sappy songs and try to sell the soundtrack in stores. That would ruin it for sure.
The more modern version of Alice in Wonderland was pretty good. I could see it going off in that direction. But, I will hope that it will go darker, as they did with the Batman films. Give us something we will want to talk about for years.
I mean look at how many movies come out these days, how many in the last 10 or 20 years have had as much of an impact as the Wizard of Oz. I'll bet you could count them on one hand. With Avatar being one of them.

They really need to stop with these remakes - I'm not a huge fan of Wizard of Oz, but if it is being remade, it's a sign that Hollywood is venturing into 'classics' territory, and I think that'll be the end of the movie business.
The Total RecalI remake was a waste of time, and that's one thing, but if it's Wizard of Oz now, it may well be Citizen Kane and The Godfather in a few years time.
I agree. Wizard of Oz is special. Like Snow White. At least that wasn't really a remake, rather a different interpretation. I think that's what the Wizard movie is too, something more focused on Oz than on Dorothy. Probably because of those crazy books that came out recently about the whole thing.
I agree with innersmiff on this 100 percent. I honestly think remaking "The Wizard of Oz" would be a mistake. I don't mind if they adapt the other stories about Oz, as I think there was more than one book written about it. Heck, I don't even mind if they produce the upcoming prequel, "Oz the great and powerful." I honestly don't. Who knows? Maybe it'll be an under rated classic like one of my favorite films, "Return to Oz." However, when it comes to remaking the original classic, just stop. The original will always be a classic, and if they try to remake it, then its only going to be met with mixed expectations, as it'll have to endure constant comparisons to the original. Plus, how many remakes are honestly better than the original? Granted, there's a few, but most of the time it's the original that's often the best.
Disney has made several remakes of it's own movies, and they all sucked. Take the parent trap for example. 3 different versions of it, including one with triplets. None of them were as good as the original. The only decent remake of a Disney movie I can think of is "Freaky Friday." and, that was just ok.
They also remade the "witch mountain" movies, and those were just barely ok.
So, I will certainly hope that their attempt with OZ will be better.

Well I guess Hollywood feels the need to absolutely mangle another all time classic movie. They want to remake the " Wizard of Oz ". Is it just me ? Or does this kinda piss you off ?http://www.deadline.com/2010/11/warner- … ent-597230

Film remakes, do we need them? The world of film is now awash with remakes of films from the distant and not so distant past. Is it a good idea to remake these older films with new actors and technology, or should they be left to stand alone in their own right?

Did the rape scene, in the remake of The Last House On The Left, bother you / was it over the top?I go back and forth on this. I realize that it is a movie and not real, but the detail and realism in that scene made me feel so uncomfortable while watching it that I would never do it again. At the...
