Back in 1999 I enrolled in  A Writing Course with The Writers Bureau but did not go further than module 2.However there is no time limit on it so I have today  returned to complete.
I am now wondering if anyone else has completed a course and how did they find it helpful ?
    Take care,
    Eddy.

      Hi Eddy,

I haven't taken any courses with the same organization that you are working with, but did complete a course in writing for children and teens with the Institute of Children's Literature in Reading, CT.

      http://www.institutechildrenslit.com/rx/.

You work with a published author, 1-1, to develop your writer's voice. It's both demanding and fun...but tailored to the amount of time you have to complete each task.

I'd love to go back and complete another...but have to wait a bit more. Would love to finish the book I started with them and have it published first, though.

It is a challenge with lots of writing hints.  Of course it is geared to online writing but I have to agree with Blossom, its a challenge and a lot of fun too.

        Hello Eddy,
can't remember if I enrolled but studied the page a few times and came to the conclusion it was a bit of a moneymaking thing,if you find out I was wrong I would love to know and good luck to you Eddy,
        best from jandee

Thanks Jandee ;I though back then that it wouldn't do me any good to follow the course. Plus like you I had a feeling that it could be a money making thing. However I have paid for it and I think that by now I have settled and know who I am as a writer, I am open to constructive criticism but no one will change my writing voice.I will be only too pleased Jandee to let you know how I get on.
          Thanks and enjoy your day.

I have never taken one, other than in college; but would love to if I had a chance.  I just saw they were offering one at a local center for $700.  That is a little steep for my pocket book.

I haven't to date Eddy, but I haven't ruled it out either. I am in the Apprentice Program here on HP and it is helping me learn a few tricks.  I'm only in month two but, as I said, I've picked up a few things already.

I'm finishing the Apprentice Programme this month and it's been great. There is so much to learn. I found it quite a challenge doing two hubs a week, but knowing your prodigious output, Eddy, you would cope easily - and have fun, too.

Oh thank you so much Blossom and maybe we can compare notes.
Here's to a long time to come of hub sharing for us both.
          Eddy.

Those are great links readytoescape and a good preview of  the material in many paid courses.  I have taken a few. I think the best ones are from established  colleges and universities.

For other courses...find as many online reviews as you can. I find that you  quickly find they are not worth much Don't just read the positive reviews...find the ones who are unhappy and the truth will come out because those reviews point out the flaws.

I find the free resources often have as much to offer as many paid poor quality courses. It takes more effort and a whole lot of discipline but if you learn to research, the world is your oyster.

I guess you need to ask what it is you want at the end. Formal training at  an accredited institution will always guarantee a good  learning process,...those courses are expensive though!

Learning can be a continuing experience. I keep on finding resources and am constantly  amazed at the amount of free material around. If nothing else it is a great way to set the foundation for more formal learning.

I took lots of writing classes in college, including research, criticism, and creative writing. Didn't learn a thing. lol
