CPM plummeting. :(

   It's exactly as the subject title states. Yesterday, I got roughly 100 more credited impressions but made roughly the same amount of money thanks to the CPM being lower.
   
   Is anyone else in the same boat as me?

         OP I found my cpm drops as my views increase too. It sort of makes you feel like you're taking 2 steps forward and 2 steps back.

      You can't possibly learning anything by looking at one day, particularly with only a 100 impression difference.
      
      Even one good click could make the difference you're seeing.

         Oh, don't get me wrong, wilderness, I understand that fact. However, I've also noticed what Rain Defence posted as well (the tendency for CPM to drop as views increase).
         
         Yesterday is just the latest day that I've noticed this happening.
         
         Of course, shame on me for not noting that in the opening post.

      After the Christmas rush, there is definitely a drop in CPM as advertisers are not competing to get your holiday spending money anymore. However, I have always felt that, in general, as my impressions go up my CPM goes down. As far as how much we get for CPM on average, that's definitely based on your topics and possibly your screen name.

   The run up to Xmas is always a boom time for advertising (which is where the CPM money comes from).  Then it slumps, unfortunately.  I have the same problem as other hubbers, but I did anticipate it happening. 
   
   The tendency for the CPM to increase and decrease at a rate that is not directly proportional to traffic, I can only speculate on, as HP doesn't give much detailed, inside info on their deals and income from advertisers.  I suspect that the earnings money is paid from a pool of advertising revenue, which is essentially fairly fixed from month to month.  If HP as a whole experiences a surge in traffic, that means that most people are doing well in terms of traffic, but there is still pretty much the same amount of money to share around, so increases in CPM/income aren't as big as might be expected.  I may well be wrong on this particular point, it is just speculation, as I said.

      That's been happening to me, also, despite the fact that my views are up.  I have had CPMs as high as $13...so $4 or less is hard to swallow.

   I think I broke $4 once. My current CPM fluctuates between $2.50 and $3.50 or so.

      I don't know that there's a "secret"...except to understand that it's just business.  If you write an article about a topic that advertisers are willing to pay more for to get their ads seen, the CPM's are higher.  I also think time of year matters.  I can't even tell you which hubs of mine make more money because I never learned how to analyze all of that...although I know there's a way to do so.  I normally average between 6 and 8 dollars but often those numbers are all over the place.  I basically write about RVing, health, finance products and relationships and have been on HP for one year.  I don't make much, but apparently make more than many and the CPMs seem to make the difference.

            Winterfate:  Well, neither can I!  I'm surprised you don't do better because I took a look at your hubs which mostly are on games and I always thought those were pretty popular...but maybe that's the problem?  Maybe the area you're writing about has been too saturated so advertisers don't have to bid high OR maybe the games you're writing about aren't popular enough to make advertisers want to spend their money on your hubs?  Try writing about a different game or a different topic just to see what happens.
