New Hubberscore Number.

   I am noticing a number of posts in the forums from new hubbers concerned that their profile score has dropped rapidly.
   
   Maybe this is just the same as it has always been i.e  for example related to following too many other hubbers too quickly. Is it possible to check without too much time and effort if you have a glitch in the calculation of this. I do not like to see new writers put off writing here.

      People quit because of a low score? Well, that's definitely sad if it's true. Complaining is common, didn't know people quit

      It is a shame to see people leaving over Hubber scores. The only number that I am concerned with is the earnings figure each month

      There is no glitch of which we are aware.
      In general, I wouldn't spend much time worrying about the Hubberscore, but concentrate on creating great Hubs.

         Yep, my Hubberscore is not something I bother to check. This query was written in response to several new Hubbers querying a Hubberscore of 0 in the forums. I also added the link to the Learning Center for one of them to check out.

   I don't think this has anything to do with following others. There appears to have been a change in how scores work for new members.
   
   Before, the hubber score would start fairly low and gradually creep up if the person was active and published hubs.
   
   Now, it looks as if the score crashes down to zero immediately the first hub is published and stays at zero for some time, regardless of what the person does. I suspect it stays at zero until that first hub is subject to "quality assessment" by an MT peon.
   
   Although seasonsed members know hubber score is totally meaningless, it must be incredibly demoralising for a new person to see their score sitting at zero for days or maybe weeks, especially if they put a lot of effort into their first hub.
   
   At the very least, HP should have the decency to have an email sent to new members warning them them that they will be made to look like lousy authors during their initial period.
   
   I cannot help but compare this degrading and demoralising process to the situation at Squidoo, where new members are encouraged along by a fun points system, which sets them quests and challenges to encourage them to get to know the site and produce content.

      Wikinut also have a system where you earn points for creating your profile, each story, and so on. Sadly that alone was not enough to keep me interested in writing over there.

         My average earning per lens at Squidoo is also working out at more than my average earning per hub, although I've only been on Squidoo 3 months as opposed to 3 years here. That is a further factor keeping my interest level high. However, the points system makes it a lot of fun as well. In contrast, the regime over here has become so demotivating, I cannot bring myself to add any new hubs.

   Many Hubs from newest members that I see are too short (300 -400 words and not poetry) and too similar to marketing ads included in magazines and newspaper Sunday supplements in style and content. In the last two weeks, I've noticed in the greeter's list of new members, a lot of new people having a score of "0" -- They often have either a short profle or none written at all, have not written a Hub yet, or have submitted a Hub(s) very short in length or like a marketing ad, or on topics that are saturated on the Internet (and they have not added anything new). There may be other reasons for the low score as well.
   
   Happily for me, my Hubber score is not meanlingless - when it declines, I have learned exactly what areas need improvement and those improvements always work.

   And keep in mind that indiscriminately Following a VERY LARGE number of people can definitely negatively effect one's Hubber Score, so it's best to only Follow those whose work you would really like to regularly read.
