Nancy Pelosi was on Fax News last Sunday continuing to claim their is no spending problem. She also claims that sequestration was wrong.

First, if it was so wrong as she admittedly claimed, why did she so vocally support it in the first place?

Second, she blames the Republicans cuts would destroy the economy and lose jobs. She claims they need to raise taxes to create jobs. She also claimed that we need to invest heavily in education because education is the job creator.

Pelosi claimed sequestration would hurt things like food inspectors and teachers( of course teachers is always the stand by). I thought that was an interesting interpretation from her, wonder why she did not mention the DOD, which burdens the hugest cuts, and all the companies that work for the DOD. They are already laying people off, so much fro the ob creation she is boasting.

Why is she and the liberals against making cuts? Do they spend more than what they make in their personal lives? Of course not, so why mismanage the People's money. Chris Wallace points out all they have to do is make 85 billion in cuts to avoid the whole mess and keep DOD people working, no layoffs. But she dodged all over town, not answering the question at one point hinting there are no cuts to be had.

Let me make one suggestion, stop buying and subsidizing the sale of Chevy Volts. US government purchased just over 20,000 Volts last year. Eliminating that expenditure will save 2 billion dollars right there. 20,000 Volts at $100,000 per Volt between purchase price and subsidies.

How about something simple, how about a 5% across the board cut. We spent about 3.9 trillion dollars, do the math Pelosi.

Do your job Nancy, With all the resources at your disposal do not tell me you could not find another 85 billion.

What does everyone else think, do we have a spending problem? Do we need to keep raising taxes or should we make spending cuts?

No spending problem. Nope. None. We're just spending more as a % of GDP than we ever have. We're just racking up debt that could quickly become literally impossible to service. Nope, no problem.

Why don't we just spend $10 trillion a year, if it's so good for us?

Politicians give to their constituents so they can get elected.  People don't feel the national debt, yet.  They do feel social programs, so politicians spend their way into office.  It's like giving cookies to the rest of your elementary class; bribing voters is a good way to get elected, and it doesn't seem to have any consequences to the politician.  After all, spendig another person's money is pretty easy.  What does President Obama call it . . . kicking the can down the road?

Our borrow-and-spend mentality is reprehensible, irresponsible behavior that will eventually bankrupt our country and do permanent harm to our way of life.   I am certainly not a President Obama fan, as we are at record-level spending.  Even so, I must say that few, few politicians have truly been responsible enough to really even try to balance our budget, let alone have a surplus budget to start repaying our debt.

I say, vote all of them out of office if they can't put forth the effort necessary to get serious about having a real budget, one that can be sustained.  This was a verbose way of saying that we absolutely have a spending problem, and we definitely need to cut spending.

" She claims they need to raise taxes to create jobs."

I'm stupid, so can someone who's caught up on the politics and logic of this matter, tell me PRECISELY how this will work? How will raising taxes create jobs, Nancy?somebody?

Because, evil rich people are hoarding money that they have stolen from the poor by forcing them to buy stuff and work for slave wages. That money isn't being used for anything. So, we take that money, and give it to poor people, who immediately go out and spend it on a new TV. That makes BestBuy hire more people, and the economy is saved.

Jaxon, I said SPECIFICALLY, not conceptually. I could answer that question in platitudes that make sense, but have no specific meaning.

Now, take this quote from your statement to it's logical conclusion, "So, we take that money, and give it to poor people, who immediately go out and spend it on a new TV."

So we take from the rich to give it to the poor who keep Best Buy in business and they hire more people because business is thriving. Sounds great so far. But, I can be as vague as you,

But what do we do when the rich HAVE NO MORE MONEY? The poor won't get as much from the rich, they'll keep buying fewer and fewer TVs until Best Buy has to start laying people off and eventually Best Buy is on the verge of bankruptcy.

The crux is WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU RUN OUT OF OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY? That day will come. and it's coming fast.

Those rich got that way by yes, finding loopholes in the tax code and being ambitious entrepreneurs. Yes, we should close the tax loopholes, but penalize someone for taking chances, for his entrepreneurial spirit? The party in power in DC has  had 4 years to change the tax code, FOUR YEARS, and yet they chose  to spend two of those years on a piece of legislation that  few like, won't do what is promised and is WAAAAY over budget.

""That makes BestBuy hire more people, and the economy is saved." What a wonderful thing., a saved economy. If it is so easy,  why hasn't it happened? " I don't want to hear about the evil Republicans who WANT to see the economy tank more. You know better, much better.

          I was being sarcastic smile

It's very clearly a spending problem, anyone with a calculator can look at our income and debt and realize that we won't be able to service it for long, especially if our rating goes down more or rates go up.

I can't believe that the debt is 76% greater than it was 4 years ago. SEVENTY -SIX PERCENT!!

Sorry, I missed your sarcasm, I was so blown away at the logic that I couldn't see the forest through the trees!

No problem, when we run out of money, we'll spend Chinese money instead.

Wait - we're already doing that.  OK, we'll get a bunch of Euro's to spend.

No, that won't work either - too much of Europe has already gone down the same road of excessive spending and there aren't any Euro's left.  Are there enough Peso's in the world to feed our borrowing frenzy for a couple of months while we talk to those kindly Aussie's about a loan?

Actually, the countries doing worst in Europe are the ones who are exclusively pushing austerity.

Yes of course, but you might mention that the reason for that push is because no one will loan to them until they control their spending.  They got themselves in the fix by spending more than they could afford, not austerity.  Cutting spending is a solution, not the problem.

    Of course we have a spending problem. I'd love to have been a fly on the wall if Nancy Pelosi had been on the dais at the National Prayer Breakfast when Dr. Benjaman Carson spoke of the spending problem and how much time it would take to COUNT the dollar bills of our debt. 5708 YEARS I think he said;

President Obama was visibly uncomfortable but this man spoke a truth that needed to be spoken. The video is on YouTube if anyone is interested. The tape I saw was Benjamin Carson (he's the department head of pediatric neurology at John's Hopkins-and quite well spoken) on C-span 2, but the airwaves are full of what the left saying that the National Prayer Breakfast isn't the correct forum for that kind of speech.

Maybe it's not, but the PC and being afraid to ruffle someone's feathers and never speaking your truth has to be examined, Candy Crowly and Jan Schakowsky.

Yes, good point.  Also, where are all those jobs that would be created by the Bush tax cuts that have been in effect for the last 12 years?

"What we do need is more revenue and more cuts," Pelosi said. "What I would like to see that is a big, balanced, bold [budget] proposal. Short of that, we must do something to avoid the sequester."

    It is simple.

Sink the nation into debt using a viable currency.

Then print enough of that currency, that it is worthless.

Once the currency has no value, it is easy to repay the debt.

Bring in a new form of currency.

    Start over!
